How To Turn Non-Text Alerts Off

I have an LG Thinq V40. It is an Android 10 (or Q I believe). I get an alert sound all the time that sounds like an incoming text, but often is not a text. I have no idea what those alerts are for. I would like to get an alert ONLY for a text message. Is there any way to turn the other alerts off? Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you saying that when you hear the notification tone, you don't see a corresponding notification icon in the status bar?

You should be able to use Do Not Disturb, and set an exception for the texting app: www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-220670/

Or set the default notification sound to silent and set a custom tone for your SMS app

I am new to android. I am sorry, but I am not even sure where the bar is, or how to open it.

The status bar is the bar along the top of the screen. On the left of the bar, you should see icons related to any notifications you receive. To see more details, you can swipe down from the top of the screen to bring down the full notification panel.

When you hear the notification tone, see if it correlates to a new notification icon.
