I cant seem to find this option anywhere and I get way too many emails a day to have my phone making sound/vibrating every 2 minutes.

Somewhere in the account settings? Choose not to sync up...often.

fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.

yea i have no clue how u got to thaose options but i just figured it out anyway. i went settings>apps>gmail and then theres a checkbox turn off notifications

The way you turned off the settings is for the app itself, meaning that all existing accounts all got muted; any new gmail account that you add in the future will also be muted.

The previous poster recommended muting the more conventional way - through the gmail app options. This way you can customize notifications for each account separately, you can even customize notifications for each folder within.

Anyway, either method is ok, just depends on your goal.
