Android Central Question

Since the Oreo update my home screen rotates now when in landscape. It never used to do it, can I turn it off just for the home screen? I still want screen rotation for everything else though like watching video and viewing pictures etc so the screen rotation toggle option won't work to fix this problem.

That depends on the launcher (the app that creates the home screens) you're using. Some launchers have their own rotation setting, others follow the system setting.

You can use an app like tasker to turn on rotation only for certain apps then turn it off automatically when you exit that app.

Welcome to the forums. You can try this. Long press a blank spot on your home screen - tap the settings gear icon - disable 'Allow home screen rotation'.

Ever since my phone updated about a week ago my home screen repeat my home screen is now rotating into landscape mode and I hate it. How do I disable this from happening on just the home screen. I cannot believe this question has not been asked. the button mentioned above does not exist on my phone A Galaxy S7. When I go to that screen that option is not there.

Welcome to the forums. Can you find this option in settings - display - home screen?

No it's not an option. The only part of the menu missing from that picture is "About Home Screen" at the bottom.

Yeah, it seems that option is only available on the S8 and above.

Not sure what else to suggest. You could use the search feature in the settings (magnifying glass top right) and type 'portrait', 'home screen', 'rotat' ... and see if you get any result.

I'd recommend you to create a thread in the S7 forum with all this information. This way it'll be easier getting feedback from other owners.

I have the S8 (SM-G950F, Oreo 8.0.0, last update Aug. 22, 2018) and am in the U.S. I've had this phone for over a year, and the home screen just recently started rotating.

I'd like to disable rotation for the home screen only. The options described above don't exist on this phone. It seems like the same situation that Damien above had, but I have an S8, not an S7. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums. That's strange, that auto-rotate feature should be part of the launcher. Have you look around the settings available after you long press an empty spot on your screen?

I will move this thread to the S8 forum where it'll be easier getting help from other owners. I know that originally the problem was reported on an S7, but probably the solution will work for both models and we definitely will get more attention on the S8 forum.

Thanks. Yes, I've checked those. Long-pressing brings up four options: Wallpaper, Themes, Widgets and Home Screen Settings. I've looked through them all, but no luck.

Thanks for moving the thread to the S8 forum.

I have an S8 from Verizon and when I long press on an empty area of the home screen and then click Home Screen Settings the 8th item down, Portrait mode only, prevents the home screen from rotating to landscape.

Pixel6 has the option too. Off by default though.
