How do you turn off the my magazines. It's annoying and not useful.

You can't disable it completely. You can however go into the app, open the settings and uncheck the "Open using the Home key" option

Ewww omg. I should have just got a windows phone bow every time I swipe up this monstrosity of an app that jacks your data up opens.
