Android Central Question

My wife dropped her Pixel 2 XL and shattered the screen. The top half of the touch screen still works (kinda sort) but the bottom half, including the permanent buttons, is non-responsive.

We just received the replacement phone and discovered that somehow her phone backup to Google Drive was never enabled, so there is not a backup to use. We then wanted to use the USB-to-USB method, but it is not possible for us to unlock her phone because although the fingerprint sensor is working the device is asking for her PIN as additional validation, and since the bottom half of the screen doesn't work we can't enter it.

Inverting the phone doesn't put the keyboard at the top. Turning it sideways doesn't move the keyboard, not sure if this is a lock-screen thing or a broken-screen thing.

We have access to her Google/Gmail account, Project Fi account, we have physical access to the phone, is there anything we can do to unlock it? We can even use her fingerprint, it's the friggin secondary validation asking for her PIN that's stopping us. Any suggestions?

Glad you managed to get it done and thanks for the follow up! It'll be very helpful for others users with a similar problem.
