THIS WILL PUT YOU ON NEW BASEBAND
IF YOU DO THIS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMs UNTIL SOMEONE RELEASES A NEW KERNEL

This will not work on the Thrive. Thrive can get the new baseband by following thrivin's instructions here.

Method One (Support Tool) RECOMMENDED:

?????1. Download LG Mobile Support Tool and install it

?????2. Make sure you have the drivers. If you don't have them get them here.

?????3. Run the support tool

?????4. Plug in your phone (Do not activate USB storage) and follow the onscreen instructions

?????*It will go into emergency mode, this is normal*

?????5. When it reboots, one of two things will happen:
??????????a) It will go to the battery charging screen, if it does this, reboot it.
??????????b) It will simply reboot.

?????6. Do a factory reset
??????????a) Remove and replace the battery
??????????b) Hold Power + Volume Up + Home (As if booting into CWM)
??????????c) Let it boot normally

?????If you do not do a factory reset your phone will hang on boot.

Method Two (KDZ Updater):

?????I have not personally tried this method, but reports say it works

?????1. Download the KDZ Updater Tool and the KDZ File

?????2. Enable USB Debugging (Settings > Applications > Development)

?????3. Close EVERYTHING on your PC

?????4. Disable LG Virtual Modem (On the PC go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Modems > Right click on LGE Virtual Modem and hit Disable) If it isn't there don't worry.

?????5. Move all your apps to the phone memory, and then unmount the SD card, and remove it from the phone.

?????6. Open the .7z file (with 7-Zip ) and extract it

?????7. Run msxml.msi

?????8. Connect your phone (Use the USB ports on the back of your computer)

?????9. Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe

?????10. Select 3GQCT for type and DIAG for phone mode.

?????11. Browse to the KDZ file you are flashing.

?????12. Press "Launch Software Update"

?????13. A helpful guy from XDA said that this is how it went:

?????I shall describe in detail what happened with my phone - 10-15 seconds after launching software update on PC, my phone screen turned blank and in a couple of seconds the phone entered the 'Emergency Mode'. During this mode the screen was yellow with Emergency Mode written along the middle of the screen. Also you can check the progress on your computer in the KDZ updater. I have attached a text log file for you to compare. When the update is finished the KDZ updater will show a message in the log screen itself as =FINISHED=. The phone stays the same way till the Software update procedure finished on the pc and the phone turnes blank in the end. I waited a while for it to reboot but after a minute or so, I manually switched on the phone. The phone came alive and following the LG boot animation, the android logo screen came up. The phone takes about 2 or more whole minutes in that state before booting up fully and entering the home screen.

????14. Wait till phone reboots by itself ( which it might not) so wait for a while before manually switching it on (I waited 3 minutes).

You can find the original KDZ tutorial here.

NOTE: THIS WILL WORK IF YOU ARE ON CM7, AS LONG AS YOU ARE ON OLD BASEBAND THIS SHOULD WORK

Sounds good and all, but personally I'd prefer to wait for something a little bit more official for us thrive users. I've already bricked the first thrive I had (I'm actually waiting for my replacement now), so needless to say I don't feel like going through the iffy *it should work*--I want more of a definitive it WILL work. I understand this is the official Phoenix gingerbread update, so until somebody w/ a thrive becomes the brave soul to try this and see if it'll apply to our phones; I have no desire for the added headache right now.
