How would leaving VZW work if I have device payments?

Sorry about the vague title everyone lol. I hate that I share 24GB of data with 3 other people and always have to keep an eye on it. So I wanted to switch to TMO or Sprint. Problem is that im paying for my Pixel XL through device payments along with my bill. I got it down to $22/month for 2 years which isnt bad but altogether I pay about $65/month for myself. I know I should be on verizons forums but those bots are super annoying. I wanted to hear from this community instead and see if anyone is on the same boat as me or is thinking about making the switch. I want unlimited data with this phone so bad. Its such a little beast!

Well, if I'm not mistaken, most carriers offer to pay off any penalty fees from breaking a contract (if any), but I know T-Mobile for sure offers to pay off whatever is left from your device payments AND let you keep the device (other carriers will pay it off but keep the device as a trade-in).

Now, the problem is that right now on most carriers the best way to save is to have a 'family' plan, so switching a single line isn't as appealing as switching 2 or 4. If you are switching all 3 people or can get some friends to switch with you, that would make the most sense in terms of savings.

I moved from VZW to T-Mo and they picked up all costs: outstanding device payments as well as all VZW early termination fees. Also got BOBO on S8's for my family members.

Worked out great.
Never looked back.

Verizon offers unlimited now, I think it's actually cheaper than the 24Gb plan was, if not it's close in price.

To answer the initial question, I did this recently and was a Verizon rep prior to it, so I doubt anything has changed.

When the line of service is removed from the account, the next Verizon bill gets the entire amount still owed on the phone added to it. Its no longer a monthly payment, and they want it in full with the bill. If you can't pay it in one lump sum, and the bill becomes late, service can get disconnected on the entire Verizon account your line was on.

Other carriers often run promotions to pay off device payment plans you owe with another carrier, this will cover the cost, but usually you won't see it until after the Verizon bill has already been due.

Anyone who came to Verizon from another carrier and had a contract or phone plan bought out by Verizon had to wait 3 bill cycles to get it. This was to protect Verizon from people getting their equipment paid off and immediately leaving Verizon. I would assume T-Mobile makes you wait to get money as well.

Thank for the feedback guys! I My gf has an unlimited plan with her siblings so I might stop by tmo and see what they can do. You guys are also right, VZW has an unlimited plan but its 110/ month for 4 lines. Seems like we just cant win as consumers lol

It’s only $27.50/line for Unlimited everything

Maybe depending on where you live. Here in NY it is $40/line plus the $20 access fee and device payment of $22.50/month. That's guapo bro
