How your N7 affects your smartphone use?

Just curious. This can apply to any tablet. After a few weeks of N7 ownership, there's sort of a "division of labor" between it and my phone. I love my N7, but admittedly, it's made me wonder if the single device, phablet route might be better for me.

No immediate change planned, but I'm wondering what adjustments others have made with owning both devices.

I have 3 android devices. I use size to determine division of labor. When I'm out and about I'm using my S4 since it can always be unobtrusively with me. When I'm at the office I use my Note 8.0 since its a nice compromise between size and portability. In addition, its S-Pen makes it very useful at work for notes, meetings, etc. At home, I want a luxurious experience and and my Sony Xperia Tablet Z delivers quite well with his power and nice sharp 10.1" display.

For you, with the Nexus 7 (which I recently auditioned), I'd say the Nexus would be preferred for general consumption, reading, and gaming. It's quite portable but maybe not as unobtrusive as your phone so you ma not be carrying it everywhere. Also, your phone may have a better camera.

here's how your respective devices should be used in tandem. smartphone should be used only outside of the home, fully mobile. tablet for indoors or in the car usage. I wouldn't even touch a smartphone at home or in a car unless it's to answer a call. I wouldn't bother to take a tablet anywhere but around the home or in a car, because I'd be too busy interacting with the real world.

Well, that's certainly one perspective.

I tend to play fewer games on my phone now that I have an N7, but it really depends on where I am. I use my N7 for all sorts of general purpose stuff but usually only when I'm home (I rarely take it to work unless I'm in the midst of a good book and want to read on breaks). My phone is of course my go-to device when I'm out and about.

There is no wrong or right way to use a tablet versus a phone, there's only the best way for you.

When I'm at home, I hardly ever look at my phone. I use my N7 for texting, surfing, games and reading. The phone is basically my alarm clock, and I answer phone calls on it. If we're out somewhere, I'll usually leave the tablet at home, since it's Wifi only.

The Nexus 7 LTE is going to replace my smartphone (HTC EVO 3D from Virgin Mobile). I will now carry an old flip phone with PagePlus Cellular for calls.

Unlike most people here, when I'm at home, I use my laptop computer. Nothing beats a laptop in my opinion! I almost never use a tablet at home. Having a physical keyboard and fast access to all websites without page errors, slow flash, etc. is awesome.

This question is one of several reasons I've switched to an 8.9 inch tablet. The lines are much clearer as to what the tablet is better for. Many analysts predict that phablet sales will start eating into 7 inch tablet sales, and 8 and 9 inch tablet will be the future, since that size still gives a noticeably superior experience to a five and six inch phone screen.

My division goes like this: At home when practical, I use my Kindle Fire HD 8.9, since almost everything looks and sounds better on it. My LG smartphone with 4.5 inch screen is my backup service for any time that using my tablet is not practical. For instance, when I'm away from the house or when I'm home and my tablet is charging or I need to make a call where sounds quality matters.

When I need to create a document, I use my ultrabook.

Now barely use my Galaxy Nexus except for texting and phone calls when home. Don't really take my N7 when out and about, so that's when my GNex gets used. Initially worried that I would be spending money on a N7 just cause I HAD to have it, rather than something I'd make good use of. Needless worry.

Looking forward to the type of sync that LG is employing between their G2 and GPad for all Android devices, that would be killer.

This is my only disconnect. I use my carrier phone # for texting, so I need my phone nearby, even at home.

Is there an app for that?

I use MightyText, and I think there are a few others. Mighty will let me know on the N7 if I have a call coming in, too. Basically, I turn off the ringer on the phone and just use the tablet. So much easier to text on the N7 than the phone.

Nice. I also found an app called TabletSMS that appears to be similar.

I'm on AT&T. Although apparently not N7-compatibable, there's an AT&T Message for Tablet app. Poor reviews, but I'm going to try and sideload this on my N7.

When at school and I want to take digital notes, I use my tablet. Most of my professors think I am just texting people if I take notes on my phone and using a laptop sometimes can take a while to start windows fully. Android allows instant accessibility to my Evernote account without a long boot process.

I like my phone for short simple tasks or obviously texting. But I use mighty text so I can text from my tablet if I need to while using it. Anything reading based is used on my tablet due to a larger screen.

I'll have to check this out...sound like it acts as a conduit for your messages from your phone to your tablet and vice-verse?

I have considered doing the same but normally I am playing music at home and don't want to miss a phone call. I have a spare battery for my Galaxy S3 and I charge both batteries at night.

MightyText just notified me that I missed a call on my cell, which is downstairs, as well as who the caller was. It also shows my phone's battery percentage, and it can sync photos & videos on my phone to my tablet. And of course, I can use the app to text "What?" to the caller :-D and that text msg and any others will be on my phone. I may never touch my phone @ home again.

I've started using my nexus 4 for only a wifi hotspot, since this uses much less battery power(my nexus 4 gets horrible battery life the way I use it) than running the stuff I run on my tablet which uses heavy crypto and kills battery. So, with the screen off on my nexus 4, i can utilize it's internet connection to power my experience on the N7 which lasts me many hours of heavy use.
