My name's Matt and I just recently got the Nexus S 4G. So far I'm loving it but looking into the idea of rooting it and using ROMS.

Quick question about rooting and ROMs, is it easy to brick the phone and if the phone gets bricked would the Sprint insurance cover it or would I just be SOL?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome.

I don't have a Nexus S (though I want one) so I don't know how easy or hard it is to root, but I do know that rooting your phone voids your warranty, so if you root and something bad happens afterwords you're likely going to have to shell out the money for a new phone yourself.

Welcome!

The best thing about a Nexus phone is that they are pure Android and the first to be updated! In essence, they get the new stuff that may never even make it out to the rest of us.

If there is something that you need that you cannot do with the Tips and Tricks or just want to tinker, consider rooting. But yes, it is possible to brick a phone. Hard but possible.

Also check out the temporary rooting options in the tips and tricks. You might be able to get the benefits you may want to add without a permanent root.

Thanks for all the info! I may eventually try rooting my phone, but might just play around with what I have for now. Or try the temp rooting options!

Thanks again!
