V30 looks like the best phone of the year so far to me but how's the LG skin? Is it Samsung bad? I don't need 10 duplicate apps or different voice assistant or reworked settings app.

It's very lightweight. I used to have a Samsung, I disliked all the tweaks from Samsung. LG is known to have the most consistent and smoothest optimized OS experience. Only issue is icon design isn't too exciting.

Well I picked up an HTC U11 and I absolutely hate the changes and duplicate apps they made. Settings menu is unorganized and has tons of crap I don't want added and there are multiple duplicate apps that can't be disabled or uninstalled. Don't get me started on that stupid NFC icon in the status bar. Why?

Everyone says HTC makes a lighter skin, I don't think I can do any skinning after being with Motorola and Nexus for so long.

I do not mind LG's skin. I have the V20 currently and I like that I can change the theme Right now I am using the Pixel Dark theme. I usually use Nova Launcher Prime or LG Home with out the app drawer sometimes too. I have not had any slow downs performance wise, but am having an issue with image retention. It goes away but I still might ask for a new one.

I'm just going to copy/paste what I posted on reddit earlier...

First off, there's more to a skin than just the launcher. With that said, LG has consistently toned their skin down with each new phone. It's honestly not far off from stock Android save for the overall theme (which, again, is not that far off).

The biggest differences are probably the settings app (I prefer LG's tabbed settings over the standard list) and the phone app. The lock screen is identical except you can have five custom shortcuts. Everything else (messaging, calendar, email, etc) can be swapped out. Notification panel is also improved, in my opinion, because you can have a brightness and a volume slider present (having both turned on, though, doesn't play well when you're trying to respond to a notification in landscape mode).

I actually like LG's skin. What I don't like is the long term slow down issues. Long time exclusive LG user here (currently on the V20) and performance is why I'm stuck on a yearly upgrade cycle. YMMV, but this has been my experience. Some people have no complaints, I do.

LG is decent on security updates. They're terrible everywhere else. Point updates to Android OS will likely never see any LG device because LG focuses on the major updates. Personally, though, I don't think those point updates are as big of a deal as everyone makes them out to be. If they are, you have no reason to ever buy a non-Google phone in the first place. My Verizon V20 is sitting on the June security update so it's actually past due.

I told myself no need more LG devices after the V20 because I'm never fully satisfied with performance and I was planning on going for a more stock experience since everyone raves about it (haven't had stock since the Nexus 5 or my G3 running CM...which was super fast), but the pricing of the Pixel means that's out of the question. I'm likely going to move on to the OnePlus 5. However, if there are any good sales for the V30, I'll hop on it. Just not at full priced. Nothing against LG, just sick of being taken advantage of by big business with high prices that are high for no reason other than people being willing to pay.

A lot of owners of any brand are running Nova Launcher which is somewhat of an improvement

The launcher is not the skin. And LG probably had the worse stock launcher. That said, changing the launcher doesn't change the skin.

Once you double tap, you won't go back.

Too true. Best feature most Android users don't know they need.

Does it get bogged down over time?

In my experience, yes. Though you'll find many people on these forums who would disagree. Despite that, I'm eying the V30 again after being thoroughly offended by how much Google thinks they can charge for the phone. Even if LG prices high, we know it'll drop in a few months.

I realize that, however most people are really complaining about the launcher when they complain about the skin.

Also you can use the tabbed settings or the list in LG for those who hate tabbed settings.

I don't agree with that. Anyone who takes the time to post in a forum about a skin is well aware of the existence of launchers and how easy they are to change. They are not completely clueless.

Nope, unlike Samsung and their heavy UI and constant services running in the background. My phone is still lightning fast as the day it came out the box. Samsung phones are known to slow down, even Apple (planned obsolescence).

You don't have to agree with what I've observed. I'm going by what people say they , not what I believe and assume.

835 chip takes care of any slow down on both Samsung and LG phones. S8 and G6 both still run very smoothly.
