Hows your GPS?

We always here about people checking their GPS and GPS lock at home using wifi on Google Maps and hopefully getting under 10 meters or better lock.

Last night when I ran out to the store I decided to check it while in the parking lot off wifi on 3g (I was on 4g at the time).

Home on wifi : GPS lock under 10 sec/3 meters

Away on 3g/4g : GPS lock under 10 sec/5 meters

I would say those are some good numbers. Hows yours?

Note: Running DK28 Froyo>rooted>EXT4 w/Edify Script>Truly Epic Rebirth v1.1

I'm still running stock 2.1, and of course I'm not getting those results. I really don't want to root and install a custom ROM, mainly because I want my device to work as it should without going to such lengths. I'm fully capable of rooting and all that, but I simply don't want to have to do so.

I'll note that the poor GPS performance is the only thing that's making me consider returning my Epic within my 30 days and seeing what else comes available.

I would then suggest you read the stickies above, there is one for resetting GPS.

Mine works great, both on stock and rooted, which is running stock. I just got home from 2000 mile trip, don't know the meters of accuracy, but it was everything I wanted and needed, so try those.

2.1 stock has terrible GPS performance. I see a lock well after 1 min to 33M or 100ft which is about as useful as going to WalMart and having the clerk tell you the milk is "somewhere over there"

LOL! Sorry not making fun of your GPS but I like that comment.

Out of everything official Froyo will bring one day I hope a true GPS fix is included above everything else.

My GPS sucked on two devices at first.. I whined and complained to Sprint and even to Samsung... I thought about returning it as coming from and still owning a BB, I am used to things always working, but there was no real alternative *to me*..
Then, I installed the 2.2 OTA Beta when it first hit and was actually filled with joy when I got a perfect lock in my home for the first time ever....

My GPS will work for things like navigating in the car, where a 30m lock is kind of acceptable. Where it won't work is when using something like RunKeeper, which first takes too long to get a lock and then isn't nearly accurate enough to track a walk.

I'm on 2.2 ROM n & widow, the GPS locked instantly. On 3g, it takes a little longer to lock but locks after about 2min.

I enabled the wifi and cell tower location and my gps seems to work every time now. When it was off I wouldn't get a lock. It is within a few meters. I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly where I'm standing on my lawn though.

With 2.1 stock mine would take 1+ minute to get a useful lock (it always worked). Since installing DK28 Froyo it locks in 5 to 10 seconds. I don't know about the meters, what I do know is that the navigation works great.
