I've ordered two extra dongles for my U11 and they will be delivered Tuesday according to Fedex. Many have wondered if these accessory dongles are identical to the one supplied with the U11 as they only sell for $11.95. When I get them, I'll do my best to see how they compare and if they are indeed identical. Some of you may want to order an extra one or two as well. This dongle by the way works well with other phones, especially the Galaxy S8 which I also have. Anyway, FWIW they're now finally in stock and shipping for those that may be interested in an extra dongle for your U11.

So does the sound sound better from the dongle on the s8 than the phone's Jack?

Honestly, they both sound pretty good. I think the sound stage sounds more spatial through usb audio, but you'll have to try both and make your own judgment. I'm not dodging the question. It's just that they both sound pretty good and it's hard for me to say unequivocally that one sounds better than the other.

This article is pretty thorough at explaining the differences in general between the two.
3.5mm audio vs USB Type-C: the good, bad and the future

Ok, my 2 extra dongles arrived today. They do appear identical to length, size and weight of the one that comes with the U11. They would also have to have a built-in DAC for USB audio to work, so I'm assuming they're identical in that respect.
They sound fine and you will be prompted to update the firmware as soon as you connect them (to a U11). I have not tried them on my Axon 7 or LG V10 as they already have excellent DACs so no need to). I did try them on my S8 as I mentioned above in this thread and they sound good (with good closed-ear headphones).

The only way to update the firmware would be to connect it to the U11 for future updates correct. Or at least a compatible HTC phone.
