Before I decide to purchase the ERIS, I would like to find out how the battery life is. I see that the battery is 1300 MAH compared to the 1500 MAH battery that is in the Sprint Hero.:)

Any info would help.

First Android Central post.

Thanks

Does anyone know if you can replace with a larger battery? Came across a site where they were selling larger batteries for the standard hero.

Stupid htc lowering battery size by 15%, are they drunk?

I'm unimpressed with the battery life. It's probably the phone's biggest downfall. Get half a day with a full charge

However I keep customizing it and futzing with it.. haven't put it down since I got it. So maybe I'm not giving it a fair shot. I also feel that smartphones need to work themselves out and the battery life marginally improves after the first week.

But my previous phone (original Storm) had a far superior battery life.

One of you (with bad battery life) look at menu-->settings-->about phone-->status and check your awake time. If it's 100% you need to do the Hero sms fix. If it's not, Sprint has some explaining to do :)

1. Download Handcent or ChompSMS.
2. Set it up as you like.
3. Open stock htc messaging app, disable all notifications.
4. Close htc messaging app, and never open again.
5. reboot.

It's a bug in the htc app. They have admitted, and fixed it. Waiting for carriers to distribute.

I agree, the battery life after four days of having the phone has not gotten better. I'm not a super user of the device, I stream pandora for a total of one and a half hours using a bluetooth headset and use Advanced App Killer to close out apps that are still running. I've set my exchange and hotmail intervals to 30 minutes and still have to charge the device at night and via my work PC during the day.

I love the device, I hate the battery life. It's worse than the Palm Pre.

Not that I suggest returning and exchanging devices ...

However I was having problems with the phone. Google Talk wouldn't work (it would open, load, and shut immediately), same with Gmail. I went to the store last night and said, I would have removed and reinstalled the apps, but they came standard with the phone, so I cannot. And they're not working.

They replaced the phone, and I've re-set up everything as it was before ... and now the phone's battery life is FAR superior. Yesterday, I didn't make it to noon without needing a recharge. I have about 80% left from a full charge this morning.

Maybe there are some "bum" units?

I will report back. I'm not sure the phone will ever have superior battery life, but this unit is a MAJOR improvement over the phone I got on Friday.

I can confirm that using advanced task killer left me with 5x the battery life.

12am(100%bat) > 8am(15%) before
12am(100%bat) > 8am(81%) after

Also disabled auto download from the messages app.

May be able to make it through a full day now with light use.

Almost noon and down to 40%. Not great but better. Anyone else with hard numbers? Would also like to know about the battery question above.

with light use, (around 10 emails, dozen texts, hour of music, and a few phone calls) about a day. I guess I don't have much to complain about. Eris is awesome and this is the first true 3G phone I have ever had. I always heard 3G was harder on batteries.

Except for the music part, that's probably about my level of usage on my Droid. It looks like the vast majority of the power draw (80% according to my device) is the display, so I have mine shut down pretty quickly when not in use.

I'm in the habit of plugging mine into a charger at the office and that makes a big difference.
