HTC Desire 610 Voicemail notification problem

Does anyone know how to get the voicemail notification to show up. I just found out I can hold down one and it will take me to my voicemail but my phone never shows the notification even though there are vm being left.

You must use the new visual voice mail app and you must have a mobile data connection. VVM must be set at carrier. This phone will not display basic VM icon.
