HTC EVO 4G Video Settings

Just as an FYI, MPEG4 is not a specific codec. MPEG4 is a container that can hold video in several different formats. For example, MPEG-4 Part 10 is actually H.264. Alternately, MPEG-4 Part 2 can be DivX/Xvid.

Unfortunately, there's not a straight forward answer to your original question though as it really depends on the source video, the quality of the converter you're using, the settings that you use within the converter, etc. The problem is that answering a question of "what will give me the best quality video" is extraordinarily subjective! I may think something looks amazingly awesome, you may think it looks like sand fleas doing a circus act on a camels butt.

Definitely not the answer you were looking for, I'm sure. That being said, H.264 tends to give the best balance between file size and image quality, in my opinion, and it's natively supported by the EVO.

I wrote a somewhat lengthy article a while back that provides a walk-through for converting video for the EVO using Handbrake. You can take a look at it here:

Converting Video For the EVO 4G

In that article, I use a fairly straight-forward approach to the conversion settings that should give you good results for most types of videos.

Give it a shot and see what you think.

I think the original post was asking about the video camera settings in the EVO, not converting video to be played on the EVO. When using the video camera to record, you have those three options in the settings (MPEG-4, H.264, H.263).

I would also be interested in knowing the difference in the 3 settings.

Bump

...I too would like to know the differences between these settings & what give the absolute best results for shooting video on the EVO. I've done some fiddling and test shoots using the different settings but I really don't see too much of a difference.
