Got the HTC Evo car dock at a local Sprint store. It is the worst GPS car mount I ever had.

You need two hands to attach it to the windshield, the entire phone rotates when you do so and the articulating arm has different limits in different directions.

Compare this with other GPS mounts that I have had (Garmin, Mio and Navman) where you can attach it with one hand by pushing a lever.

Will return it to the store and will try a AC vent phone holder.

Anybody has a good experience with a Evo car holder?

Edit: the quality of the HTC holder is very good, the design sucks.

I have the EVO car dock and I love it once you get it attached it holds firm you need 2 hands to attach it to your window but I think this is because it really pulls the suction cup in tight so it wont come off the window. No worries about this dock drooping my EVO. You can change the EVO from Portrait to landscape with ease but it does take a few try's to get it set where you need it because of the movement limits on the swivel joints but once set it works great. One thing I like is being able to swivel from portrait to landscape without having to loosen a locking device like on other holders I just reach up turn the EVO and it stays that way without having to loosen or re tighten anything. The fact that it goes in to car panel mode without having to touch anything is also a plus. For me this is the best option I have seen keeps my EVO safe and secure in reach and in car panel mode for safe driving.

I use a car mount I bought from ProClipUSA.com. It is a two part system where you buy a mount and device holder. You pick a mount that fits your car based on where you want the device (a/c vent, lower dashboard, etc). Then you select a device holder for your phone. They have fixed holders that fit the stock phone perfectly and adjustable holders for people who use cases on their phones (like me). It holds my phone solidly and I have no complaints with it after 3 months.

The adjustable holders don't have a built-in cable but this works well: xda-developers

Thanks everybody for the info. The HTC doc went back to the store and I will get one of the vent docs mentioned above.

BTW, does the car dock app work in landscape mode? With the HTC dock, even though the phone was landscape, the car doc home was in portrait mode. When I opened the navigation up it was displayed correctly in landscape.

I bought the HTC Car dock, and I like it a lot. I didn't need a car charger, because i already had one. It holds the phone very well, and seems to secure to the dashboard wonderfully (I have it on the dash with the plastic disc that came with it. I don't like stuff on my windshield.

It was a little pricey, but I think it was worth it for the build quality. Everyone has their opinion, though, and there a lots of options out there.

The ProClip mount looks great, but i wanted one that I can take out and put in another vehicle (AKA my wife's car).
