HTC Evo Shift 4g (or any Android Phone) on Sprint SERO plans

For those on SERO plans from Sprint, figured I'd relate this story. May help you figure out what you need to do if you want a new phone and are on an old plan. The phone itself I like, support is more of the issue. Seems that no mater what they tell you in chat, don't trust it. I was told I could keep my old plan, twice, but that was not the case.

The change to allow Android phones on SERO only took place a short time ago. Sounds like you chatted with a couple of reps who did not know the right information. Sucks that they told you the wrong thing, but at the same time $50/month for a Android phone is still a smokin' deal. You would be able to activate one of the "non-4G" phones for the $40 and not require the extra $10/month - so an option would be to return the Shift and order a different Android device.

Yeah, that's why I'm kind of stuck. I don't want to "cut off my own noise to spite my face" as the old saying goes.

Wait, so you were able to stay on a SERO "premium" plan at $40/month plus $10 for 4G? I was on a SERO Plan and called and was told that if I go for a 4G phone, then I have to go on an everything data plan ($69) plus the $10 for 4G. I then later initiated a chat session and was told the same thing. So, I got the evo shift and am now paying $80/month vs my previous ultra cheap SERO plan.

SB65 - I would call back and see if you can get yourself switched back to the SERO that you were on. You are able to have the SERO plan at $50/month for the 4G Android phones.

How do we get the SERO plan??

For me, I was a Sprint employee for many years (with free service) and when I left the company, Sprint offered us a reduced rate by including us in some Sprint Employee Referral Offer plan (or something like that), in which I received a reduced rate. A regular "joe blow" off the streets can't sign up for it or anything.

I'm on SERO Premium and I just got my EVO Shift on Tuesday.

You want to call the Employee's CS line. Google something like "SERO Customer Service Number". This is an American number and they are familiar with SERO.

I called up, said my contract was up. I wanted the Shift, but wanted to keep my plan. They warned me that I'd have to pay an additional $10/month for 4g which I already knew. They then transfered me to a sales department familiar with SERO. Confirmed SERO would remain my plan again, and was given the go.

Phone arrived the next day. I called the regular activation line, which was a foreign CS department. They tried to get me to change plans even though I had the phone on hand which was already approved for SERO.

I hung up, called the Employee's line again, and got it activated.
