HTC Evo V 4G and Evo Design 4G hands-on photos

Supposedly, 3d is disabled by default, or only used on video and images... Probably a smart thing.

The good news...
There seems to be only two pieces of bloatware.
4G is NOT throttled. 3G is still throttled at 2.5gigs.
Battery life is supposed to be better... Easy full day of normal use.

Apparently, quite a a lot of people are leaving major carriers for this. Good news for Virgin.

The bad news (sort of):
Wimax will go dark in 2015... Odds are, by then you will have a new phone anyhow.
Tethering is available for $15 a month, note, this may bump you to 3.5gigs of data.

Does this mean that they'll be tracking tethering users, and that we cant use 3rd party tethering apps for emergency situations?

I really wish VM was clear on this; I've read the screen isn't 3D compatible and that it was compatible. If I can enable it, I have no problem, but if I can't, what's the point.

There wouldn't be much point in the dual cameras if it wasn't capable of being used.

As for enabling it, as long as it has the same screen, I'm sure we can find a way to enable it. Personally I don't see the point, and with my eyes, it would not only probably drive me nuts, but also eye strain I really don't need.

I could care less about 3d, I'm tired of it being a "selling point" people keep releasing same electronics as the year before but throw 3d on it and make it more expensive. That's my thoughts, and im awesome

I just want the better phone, period.

It's become more of a model trademark than a feature on the Sprint side. The hardware and performance diff between the Evo and the Evo 3D justified the purchase. Sadly, it has not seen a lot of dev support (read: ROMs). The 3D thing is cool, but it is only one feature of the phone and the rest seem to be dismissed and written off with it. I'd get one today if there were more hacker support for it.

3D is a technology that is way cool. The problem, imho, is that it is so fragmented and expensive. Comparatively, we are still in the late 80's with parallel printer cables. You've got the HTC version, the LG version, the nVidia version, the Sony version, the iMax version, the comic book version... Diversity is cool, but technology needs some standardization to make it affordable and feasible. </rant>

The Design is a better form factor, but regressive in terms of performance spec. You give up a lot to have an internationally compatible phone (which most folks will not need or use), but it is more affordable to buy.

What? As far as I've seen it has had a lot of Dev support...

The hardware difference did justify the cost, but most people with the Evo 4G felt it was fast enough and never bothered, which I think didn't help it. In fact many Evo 4G owners only now feel an upgrade to the LTE is worthwhile, not only because their 2 year upgrade is due, but also, it's a nice speed boost.

The 3d fell into a bad spot seeing as Sprint made everyone wait two years for an upgrade, but released the 3d at the one year mark. If you had a phone you liked, why would you pay for the upgrade.

As for Dev support, I'm not sure where you looked.
There is only about 1/3rd the roms compared to the Evo 4G, but it's been around only half as long, and the Evo 4g sold way better, and is one of the most supported phones around. So even 1/3rd of that, is pretty darn good. In fact...

XDA development forums show:
339 threads for the 3d.
1000+ threads for Evo 4G
60 threads for the OV
150 for Nexus S
280 for HTC Desire
300 Galaxy S 2
280 Galaxaxy S 4G
180 G2X
180 Photon 4G
250 Epic 4G touch

You were saying something about lack of support?

So no throttled 4G Sounds good. And if there is tethering is it 3G/4G Tethering, or just 3G? And is there a data cap on the tethering?

LeslieAnn,
Are you sure "4G is NOT throttled"

Did you read the info on this up coming phone right on the Virgin Mobile website? It says it will be throttled at 2.5mb......

I am reading in a lot of places that it is not. But I have more faith in what it says right on the VM website.

What do you think after reading what is on the site?

*************************************************************EDIT************************************************************************************

They removed this information from the VM website!!!! I am keeping my fingers crossed for UN THROTTLED 4G data!

I was browsing the gallery when I noticed something strange. If you look at the 7th picture from The Verge's Hands-On. Direct Link You'll notice what looks like a USB port on the bottom right corner. But there's also one on the left side of this phone. So... what gives?

People need to STOP using the term 'Data CAP'. There is no cap, just a point in which data speeds are THROTTLED. When people throw the word CAP around, folks start freaking out.
