Hey I'm kind of new here and I was wondering if there is any app that would allow the htc evo v 4g to have a mobile hotspot without paying the fee or rooting the phone. I've heard Foxfi is good app. Could anyone tell me who has an htc evo v 4g if there is anyway to get it for free. Thanks!

Is this confirmed to be working? U can only get the Bluetooth part to work

Only ones I know of you have to root unless u use Bluetooth or pda net or easy tether with the cable

How hard is it to root and what are the side affects?

1) Not hard if you can READ EVERY STEP AND PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing. At most, you need to know how to follow directions and know how to use the Windows/DOS Command Prompt.

2) Side effects include diarrhea or loose stools; headache; mild stomach pain; nausea; upset stomach; vomiting; dizziness; your piss turning purple; putting hair on your chest and ability to get more use out of your phone.

HTC might try to deny warranty claims but if you got your phone from Virgin, it's Virgin that you'll be doing a phone swap with... not HTC. Even then, push comes to shove... if you can argue that any warranty claim is due to a hardware defect, then the fact that you unlocked the bootloader on the phone is irrelevant and they will have to honor the warranty.

Try Telhoc Alpha, works great on my unrooted phone.

Try Wifi Hotspot and USB Tether, it works great and no rooting is required. I recently ran across this app and it works great. I think it's even better than Foxfi.
