Build

Overall - The build quality on the Flyer seems very good. The aluminum unibody design seems to give it a very ?solid? feel and looks great. The white plastic/rubberized upper and lower pieces seem to compliment the tablet nicely and feel nice in your hand. They have more grip then the aluminum so it seems like HTC put a lot of thought into the design. These white pieces help when holding the tablet, as the aluminum doesn?t have a lot of grip to it.

Front ? The raised lip/bezel seems like another small detail that adds a nice feel to the device. The bezel is raised on the top and bottom of the Flyer and is almost flush with the sites of the screen (holding in portrait mode). The bezel helps to hold the device and give you a feel for the top or bottom of the scree (or sides in landscape).

Misc Build - One other thing I?ll mention about the white plastic pieces (that I haven?t seen mentioned) is HTC seemed to use some of their previous designs to help improve on the Flyer. One concern from many EVO owners was the camera lens. On the Flyer the top plastic piece actually protects the camera and can come off. I though this was a great design. It seems you could replace the upper back piece (if they are available) if you get excessive scratches on the camera lens impacting picture quality. This may seem like a small thing, but to me it shows they put thought into the device and as a consumer these small things are important to me.

Weight ? The device is a heavier then the WifI Galaxy tab. It?s a noticeable difference but with the unibody and overall build quality I think its worth the added weight. Even with the weight the Flyer feels good/solid when using it. It doesn?t feel too heavy and the weight seems to give the feel of a good solid device.

Size

7.7" x 4.8" x 0.52" ? This size tablet is the ?sweet spot? for me. It?s small enough to be portable but big enough to work on and very easy to type on in landscape or portrait mode.

Interface

The Flyer (currently) runs Android 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1 for Tablet. I personally like Sense. The combinations of Sense and Gingerbread on this tablet seem to be a great pair. Everything is smooth and easy to use (if you are familiar with Android/Sense). They?ve added a few visual components that give the interface a nice ?flair? as well.

Also, the Flyer does have Haptic feedback. I couldn?t find information on this anywhere (other then forums) but, I can confirm it does have Haptic feedback (which I?m happy about).

Misc

I?ve seen some post regarding the HTC Pen and many folks don?t like the fact that its not included (US Version). I can understand this. With that aside the HTC Pen seems to give the Flyer additional uses/functions. It?s easy to use (once you get the hang of it) and the pen feels solid following the build quality of the Flyer. I think the pen and the scribe technology is a nice touch to differentiate the tablet in a market that is growing rapidly. I also think HTC is using the pen/scribe as a test to see ?what?s next? in the tablet space. I feel they want to see how well the pen/scribe is received and used to see if this type of technology has a fit for future tablets/device.

Once concern I have with the pen is - without a case where do you put it? I?m sure cases and accessories will address this in the future, but, currently it has no real ?spot? to hold/store the pen with the Flyer.

Overall

I?m very impressed with the Flyer so far. I haven?t had it long enough to test battery life but in a few days I should have a better feel for battery performance. Overall the flyer feels very solid. It?s nice to hold with a fast smooth interface.

Hopefully this is helpful and gives some insight into things about the Flyer that haven?t been posted. If you have any questions please let me know.

I wish it was included with the US version. We get, ummm, well we get to buy the case and pen! :)

Yeah, indeed, its dosnt feel like breaking right away, and the weight is also a quality mark often, and it has a nice weight, feel great when you're holding it :)

As I just posted on XDA...

Just walked out of Best Buy with my new Flyer. Played with the demo unit and stylus, and I was VERY impressed at my ability to take legible notes and mark up documents. I have a week of vendor demos coming up at work, and I will put this thing through its paces marking up their white papers electronically. The Flyer is going to be a keeper!

Loving this thing and Sense 3.0 is fantastic. (Have Sense 2 on my Evo 4G so I do have a basis for comparison)

I also have the Samsung Galaxy Tab and right away I can say that the screen is beautiful on the Flyer as opposed to the Tab. And it feels much thinner to. I have always loved the 7 inch screen because it's perfect to take a long, put in a coat pocket and especially when I'm travelling or have meetings. I can read notes, presentations, etc. and it's great that you can just grip it one hand. And the thinness works well for typing, it feels much easier to hold and type on than the Samsung Tab.

And the HTC Friendstream is so much better than the alternative that Samsung provides. And what's great about the new version of Friendstream is that the Twitter side supports lists and like Twidroyd, when you turn the device to landscape mode, it shows the preview panel of any links in the tweet. Love that.

Will add other comments as I keep digging. Can't wait till they add Honeycomb to this.

I agree

Currently I actually prefer GB over Honeycomb, especially for a 7inch tablet. I'm sure my opinion may change in the future. I just find I'm a lot faster with GB, but I'm sure this is because I'm use to Froyo and its so similar.

Are they really calling this Sense 3.0?

My software information is reporting it at 2.1 for Tablet.

Whatever it is.. I'm loving it.

I have had the Tab since the first week it was issued and am using the Flyer now. I heavily use these devices for business and have to say in my opinion that the Tab has been really fantastic. The notes feature has been really useful while I'm sitting in meetings. Between just taking notes in the general notes tab to being able to just scribble on a PowerPoint has been extremely useful. Then having it sync to Evernote just puts it over the top.

And i have to say that I do like the fact that the pen doesn't press the buttons because it allows me to use my fingers to move things while holding the pen and there is no question of what I'm requesting the nite or device to do when I touch it with the pen or my finger...no stray pen marks from my finger and no accidental movements or taps of buttons based on me touching it with the pen.

In Heaven, I think?

Picked my Flyer up yesterday - forgot about exactly when it was going to be released, and was in Best Buy to return a crappy Xoom case (yes, I'll be returning the Xoom shortly).

So far I'm besotted - now even more happy to have found this forum!

My really local BB was sold out of skins/gel covers for the backs or whatever they're called (I'm still a n00b when it comes to the terminology), so I'll be stalking the other BBs in town to see what I can find -

I'll spend a lot of time lurking!

The only thing my BB had was the Zagg screen protector. I was going to order a cheap TPU case off the internet, but I don't want to make this thing thicker and heavier than it already is. I ordered the Zagg full body skin off their website last night. We'll see how that works.

Zagg screen protectors are not so good for the pen. Too much friction. This has been the case for years for tablet pcs. I forgot and got one for my flyer and had to take it off.

I have no problem with mine. I actually like it better then just the "naked" screen. The small amount of friction helps me actually.
