HTC Inspire 4G AT&T

Just got my HTC switching from iPhone. There is a lot of bloatware as I have seen it called... I am far from having the skills to understand all the lingo that goes in to programming. I would like to root the phone so I can delete some stuff... I have the Root Explorer App ( I have contacted the company and is awaiting an answer). I am using a Mac and looking at the HTC webpage the HTC SYNC is only available for PC. What would be the non-geek way of understanding how to achieve the root...? I tried to install the z4root but since AT&T took the "unknown" check box away it wont let me install that.Thank you much
