If that is really what it looks like (or at least looked like before it was cancelled) then that's not that good looking of the phone. That button just throws everything off; could they even split the boom sound speakers in half like that and cram a button in? HTC has said the area is rather cramped space wise, hence the black bar.

The speakers on the M8 do not run the length of either grille; they're both a little less than half that long. If the renders you're thinking of actually are official HTC renders (and I really really really doubt that), then the grille on one side of the I-wanna-be-a-Samsung button could easily cover all of a speaker pot while the other could be either purely aesthetic or a cover for something like notification LEDs, microphones or (har-har) Moto-style motion sensors.

This is what I was expecting from the M9.

I have a feeling they have intended for this to be the M9, however were delayed so they rushed something out and called this one the M9 Plus.

It's the only thing that can make sense given the screen size is the same

With it having a MediaTek processor does that indicate it might not be released outside of Asia? I know these variants don’t usually receive much support from the US carriers and if they do come out the update support is abysmal; just ask anyone with an HTC One Maxx or a Galaxy mini anything.

Something like this would tempt me back to getting a One phone, but I’d be worried about support down the line. Max and Mini phones gets left behind, especially with an uncommon processor on a non flagship phone.

Im sure if its released here in the States it wont have the Media Tek. I know the One Max here in the States had the Snapdrgon 600, At least the Sprint version did

What? Nobody is going to address the elephant in the room? This device looks atrocious looking. I was hoping it was a fake. Only a 5.2" screen with an overall size of a Galaxy Note? What's the point of this? It looks like a Frankenstein monster of the One series.
