HTC Mail client issue

the mail client IMO sucks. it doesn't update itself automatically, doesn't show unread count. is there any other appz or add in that can fix this ? I really liked iphone email apps. Please advise.

Also is there any way to improve the battery life ?

Try K-9 mail from the Market. I use it for years and love it.

dump the gmail app and set up gmail as an exchange active sync account. it will save battery and use less data.
