HTC Mail or gmail app?

I'm new to Android, coming from webOS and I'm loving my Rezound so far!

I am confused though by the difference in the HTC mail app versus the gmail app. I prefer the HTC mail app.

Please bear with my ignorance but here's my deal: I have several accounts through my godaddy websites that I have set up, and several gmail accounts too. I've got them all set up in my new Rezound and everything's coming in, but I have to clear the gmail emails in in both apps, and today I've had over a hundred emails to deal with, so it's a bit of an annoyance!

Have I set something up incorrectly, or what can I do so that I can have them all go through just the HTC email app? Maybe I've got something forwarding out of gmail that shouldn't be. Heck, I dunno anymore and with setting this hot phone up over the last several days my head is spinning already!

Any advice?

You are going to get the best results when using the Gmail app for Gmail as you are actually accessing and deleting the mail on the Gmail server, not merely a copy if it similar to if you are using Exchange Mail..

From what you are describing it sounds like you have the gmail set up coming into the HTC mail pp as a POP3 connection. Assuming this is the case, the copies of the email in your HTC mail app are copies of the original and not actually synced back. You should be able to fix that by changing it to IMAP (in Gmail settings on the website) but honestly it will probably be easier to just keep Gmail in Gmail and Godaddy in the HTC Mail app.

So I'm trying to switch my gmail accounts to IMAP. Easy to enable in gmail but I can't find the option on my phone to change the account settings from pop to imap. I was going to remove the account and start over but got a message that I'd have to set my phone back to factory settings. I'm hoping it's just that I don't know my around all of the settings as opposed to having to reset. Any suggestions? TIA

Editing to add: I got my accounts dispersed correctly now I thnk: 4 non-gmail accounts left in the HTC email app and 4 gmail accounts in the gmail app. All of my gmail accounts were already set up for IMAP, so I didn't change anything there.

Hopefully sorting them this way will eliminate my duplicate messages. I had gmail accounts in both apps, duh. Actually I don't remember putting gmail accounts in both apps, like maybe it copies them to the gmail app? I'd prefer to just use the HTC app and have all 8 accounts only in there. Sorry, so much setup and learning a new operating system and I don't remember how I did it initially.

You should be able to have your GMail account in the HTC Mail app but IMAP needs to be turned on and I think to force it to IMAP Pop3/SMTP has to be turned off. I haven't tried this since the original Incredible but I don't think you get access to your GMail message tags in IMAP Remember that GMail does not use finders per se.

EDIT: To remove an account you dint have to a factor data reset, just go into Settings > Accounts & Sync click on the account you want and there is an option at the bottom to remove the account.
