HTC One camera problem or incorrect setting?

I have had my HTC One (AT&T and stock) for about 3 months and the camera has been working normally until this past weekend. I haven't taken a lot of pics with it but when I have used it, the camera always turned on and you could see what ever you were trying to take a picture of in the display. Then, I would touch the camera icon and it would take the picture. But now, when I turn the camera function on, it shows a static image of whatever it was that the lens was looking at when I turned the camera on. It no longer shows an active view of what I'm aiming the camera lens at. I can still hit the shutter button and it still takes a picture but I don't know what I took a picture of exactly until I touch the new picture to open it up in the display. I have tried to find a setting that I might have inadvertently changed that might cause this to happen but, I haven't been able to find it. Do you guys have any suggestions on checking a setting or do you think the camera function is toast and it needs to go back to HTC for repair?

Sounds like the shutter is sticking. May need a repair..

Sent From My HTC One On Verizon...

Thanks for the input. You may be right about the sticking shutter, although it does work okay when I take the picture and I forgot to mention in my earlier post, the video function works like it should. If the shutter was sticking, wouldn't it mess up the video function also?

If a HTC One owner has to send the unit back to HTC, how do you get along without a phone for a couple of weeks while they repair and send it back?

Goto settings within your camera, look for something that says clear cache, or defaults. Try that.

The only settings that I can find in the camera mode are Camera Front or Main and Photo capture mode Scene, Night and HDR. I don't see any other options in settings unless I'm looking in the wrong place. I'm pressing the three little dots in the upper left hand screen. Is that the settings area that you are referring?

I don't have your specific camera now, as I'm on another Rom. But there is a place to reset the defaults, perhaps someone will assist you that has that option.

I had that same issue long ago, and resolved it by doing this.

Okay thanks. I'm downloading the latest 4.3 software update from AT&T now. I will try it after the update to see if that solved the problem.

I will have to wait awhile to find out. The software update hung up and failed to complete the download so now I have to wait another 72 hours to try again. :-(

Try setting your clock manually forward to 73 hours from now.

Okay thanks. That worked and it's downloading the software update again so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will download 100% before it locks up and stops like it did the last time.

wow...i have the exact same problem... i think it started after i used the continuous function...where you hold down the camera icon and it takes 20 consecutive pics...

i did check out resetting the phone...as someone suggested...ugh...don't want to do that...you lose everything...including your apps...

anyway...was the problem solved with the 4.3 update??? my phone says there are no upgrades for my att htc one... hmmmmm???

Don't forget to set your clock back if it doesn't auto do it after update.
Thank you for the reminder. The update did not update the date back to today, so I had to go in and manually do that. The new software update did fix the camera problem. Yeah!!! :)
Thanks again for all the advice. I'm a happy HTC One user again.

Yes, the 4.3 software update fixed my camera problem. I hope it will do the same for you. Keep trying on the software updates. The servers are overloaded and it took me several try's to get it completed.

Hey I have a htc one mini and I have the same problem. However the update for 4.3 hasn't came. What to do

Which service provider do you have?
Boat racer it's fine. I just hit the restart button and the camera works now. Thanks for your help anyway. Buj you can try that. Hold the top button and underneath shut down it should say restart somewhere.
