HTC One: Does your battery drain from 100-90% very quickly, then from 90% down more slowly?

Within a few minutes of taking my phone off the charger in the morning its down to 96-97%. The battery seems to drain exceedingly fast down to 90% or so, but then after that the battery drain is very slow for the rest of the day. Anyone else see this with their phone?

typical battery issue that`a 1 year device would face but surprised to see that happen to new HTC One.
have you been careless with the battery like charging it overnight, charge too often etc?

I've had the EVO 4G and the EVO 3D and they were notorious for this as well...

Do you not charge your phone over night? I think most people do.

http://phandroid.com/2010/12/25/you...is-lying-to-you-and-its-not-such-a-bad-thing/

Have a read at that.

Overall conclusion: Battery charging systems allow for the phone to drop the actual hardware battery percentage while you leave it charging while maintaining a 100% battery status on the UI/software side. This leads to a quick percentage drop in the shown battery life on your UI.

Charging a battery overnight doesn't cause any problems as the voltage regulator stops the charge when needed and charges when needed to keep the battery full. Lithium Polymer batteries do not create a memory effect so charging often doesn't harm the battery either.

The OP hasn't stated what he has running in the background to make it do that. On the charger over night, the phone goes to deep sleep. When taking the phone off the charger, it wakes it up waking all it's sync features....such as google, facebook, lookout, twitter, and the plethora of syncing apps sucking down juice as soon as they connect. That would make it drain a few % in just a few minutes. If he nothing like that syncing, then I would drain the batt down to 5% or less.....do not let it die....turn the phone off and charge till full. Do this a couple times and it will recalibrate the battery.

On a side note, my phone has a few apps that sync as soon as I take it off the charger, I will drop 2 to 3% within just a couple minutes then it tapers off to normal.

Nussin' to worry bout' my homies.

Careless charging over night! Lolz let me set an alarm for 4am from now on! Back on topic my battery does indeed drop the first 10 percent much faster than the rest.

I don't have anything most of us don't have on our ONE's. Gmail, Imap email account, Facebook, Backup to dropbox. Those are all I can think of that would sync in the morning. The battery has behaved like this ever since I got the phone. I remember the first morning after a full charge I looked at my phone and read through Google reader and surfed a few webpages before getting up and I freaked out because the battery had gone down to 96% in a matter of 30 minutes. By the end of the day though the phone had about 60% battery left still. Now I'm usually down to about 50% by the evening, or 30-40% if I'm in the office a lot where the reception is poor.

Just a thought but could this be due to the fact that we typically use our phones for a bit once we take them off the charger? Try taking it off the charger and not using it for an hour and see how much has drained to test this. Kind of like how battery life sucks the first day we get our phones.

Test out the battery...hopefully i will be able to post about this in a day or two as im getting some positive results but need to confirm as today after charging over night is not the same as the previous 2 days...

Phone screen on for 30 minutes and only dropped 4%? That's pretty darn good in my book! It also depends on what setting you have your brightness. Most people turn off auto brightness and set manually to 30-40% as auto brightness can kill battery life. Your results may vary for the best or worst depending on your habits.

Sometimes it happens to me. Depends if I use it or leave the house. If I unplug and leave it be while at home it won't do it that bad. I am on wifi and have a Airave from Sprint (basically a cell tower in my house) so my phone rocks full signal while home.. But usually once I leave in the morning it will start this drop or if I start texting and other things in the morning.

I'm trying to understand this bug, as you can see my charge chart is pretty normal until 90% where it shoots up. This must mean that the software is just saying the phone is charged when in reality its not, so taking it off the charger right after it reaches 100 would cause it to quickly drop back to the low 90s.. If the chart were right it would be a nice slow trickle charge to 100. So in other words the phone is lying for whatever reason.

Same behavior on my HTC one, but i noticed that this started happening since last 2 or 3 charges. After 100 % i unplug and within minutes the battery drops to around 90% and from there on the drain is quite slow. Overall battery timings is not an issue but I was wondering why it drops suddenly from 100 percent, since this behavior was not there previously.

Every Android phone I've had does this. I'm used to it at this point.

every phone does it.

and its the reason why OEMs don't like displaying the battery %...

...but people fixate on %s.
