Hello , i have the HTC one smart phone and every 5-10 seconds of it not being used it goes black and the screen locks up...and it IS NOT the sleep mode , because i have that setting off and its really annoying that i cant do anything quickly with out it turning into this locked mode thing...and i have this one thing turned on that makes it locked WITH A PIN , every 3 minutes , but this 5-10 second lock doesnt need a pin,,,just annoying and you need to swipe your screen...but as i talk now , its not going black..it some what randomly doesnt do it sometimes , maybe its because i am in the settings menu and it only does it when i am on my home page....so what is this damn feature called if its not sleep mode? and how do i turn it off? I had it since i first got the phone , before i even did anything to it , its been doing this....some please tell me what its called at least , and if you can tell me on how to disable it that would be great.
Also does this on full battery ( and low ofc ).
I wanna have it so it never goes into some power saving mode and is on at ALL times no matter how long i am away....its annoying to hear a notification and when i go to check it i cant cause its black.

Go to settings, then screen, and set the timeout to something longer!

What are you talking about? there is no option called "screen" , unless your trying to say "display , gestures and buttons ". and i definitely do not see anything called " timeout "...closest thing to that is called "sleep" and that is set to 2 minutes but this problem happens in like 5-15 seconds commonly.

I have exactly the same problem! Purchased my HTC One on Sat 5th Oct 13, and it keeps going to black screen and I have to input my Lock code each time to continue after only 5-10/15 secs. Very frustrating. The sleep mode is set at 30 secs, so its not this. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

I found this is also a problem when using a mapping or gps app you cant follow the on screen directions with out the phone going into a sleep mode. the longest setting is 10 minutes. I don't see any setting to change when using gps even in the apps settings. I wrote an email to HTC but never heard back.

To keep screen from going black.
Settings/Display/Smart Screen/Smart Stay
That keeps the screen from going black as long as you're looking at it.
If it doesn't work immediately just uncheck the box for Smart Stay and then recheck it immediately. Worked for me. Hope it works for you.

Don't know if this is s till an issue, but, if you go to Settings, Power and turn off Power Saver, it will then unlock a "sleep feature" in the Display, gestures and Buttons menu. You can set this up to 10 minutes before the screen goes black.

Settings, Display gestures & buttons, Screen Timeout- can set to one hour now
and this
Settings, Developer Options, Stay Awake when charging - check the box.

There is no "smart stay" on the HTC one. That feature is on the Galaxy S4 however. Please ensure your addressing the correct phone when responding to queries.
