HTC One Location setting Icon

Hello all, New to Android Central, and just purchased the HTC one from Sprint. My question is a simple one I hope. I like to keep he location setting off on my phone as to preserve battery life. However is there a way to not have the "location off" Icon always appearing on my status bar?
