HTC One M8 battery drained 55% to 0% overnight in 3 hours?!

Hey guys,

This has happened a couple times from ~30% or so but last night was the worst: I went to sleep with my HTC One (M8)'s battery saying 55%, and woke up 6 hours later and it had died. I almost missed my alarm! Does anybody know why, or how I can prevent this happening?

I have Power Saver enabled to kick in at 15% battery, and Extreme Power Saving at 5%, but neither clearly made a difference. I've attached a screenshot from HTC's battery life monitoring:



In a little over three hours, the battery drained completely! The screen was off but the phone was, apparently, "awake" - and I've no idea why.

I've read a few threads on battery monitoring so have now installed GSam, but this wasn't in place last night. I do have a couple screenshots of HTC's app battery usage monitor but neither is really helping me shed any light on this issue:





I've no idea why Google Search or Kindle are on there as I cannot remember the last time I opened these apps - weeks or months ago, and several restarts ago?

Any insight into why this might have happened, what I can do to prevent it or diagnose the issue (should it happen again) would be fantastic.

Wow that is a problem. Is the battery getting hot? You have a app or apps keeping the phone awake, have you installed any new app lately

Agreed, that is a problem, I get great battery life with my M8. I think it's probably an app you have installed causing the problem. Also, why don't you charge your phone when you're sleeping?

I normally charge it when sleeping but at 55%, I didn't think I'd need to.

There's nothing new that has caused this. Are there any good apps for monitoring app battery usage (other than GSam) that don't require root access?

IF this isnt a normal occurrence then you probably had an app that was causing the device to stay awake.. aka wake lock.
ive had this happen and usually a reboot fixes the issue.

Is there a good app for pinpointing which apps are causing the phone awake.. I looked at this a while back and saw a list of processes keeping the phone awake, but NO clue on which app owned them..... Confused !
