HTC One (M8): Question About First Charge

If I plug in my M8 right when I unbox it, will it power on and boot the phone, or will it just charge the battery in a powered down state?

It does, it won't turn on until you hold the power button. HTC says you need to fully charge the device before you power it on

No. Lithium ion batteries don't need to be "conditioned" like the older batteries in phones. I charge my phone at around 20-30% but that's just because of habit. Nothing wrong with charging sooner or later than that
