If HTC comes out with the same design as last year do you guys think there will be a backlash via Twitter and Facebook? I do not even use Facebook or Twitter but I would be inclined to give HTC my 10 cents via social media. You cannot hype up a new device and not expect a backlash if all the hype wasn't warranted. I'm not interested in an HTC watch either. I have the awesome Moto 360. Just give me a great looking phone that runs as smooth as the M8.

I always upgrade my phones and a gunmetal colored M8 was forced on me because Verizon had the exclusive rights to the silver ones. As a Sprint customer, I was not a happy camper.

There's backlash on here and xda, why wouldn't it extend to other places?

There will be some but it will be mixed. So many people loved the M8 design, they probably won't mind they kept it. If HTC have a bad year though, they only have themselves to blame imho.

It's already happening and it's out there being reported. The status quo crowd is ok with this but those who want better options to Sammy and the others are disappointed.

If you think it's bad now, just wait until the device is released.

Considering professional reviews called out the S4 & 5 for rehashing the same design I'd imagine the M9 will get the same treatment, if not worse since they literately changed nothing but the camera housing. With the S6 going with a more premium design I think the press reaction will be 'Really, that's all you have HTC?' and the S6 is going to get the lions share of the attention, which is usually how it goes but it might be worse this year.

As for social media, yeah, they are going to get beat hard. You can't hype up a phone to death with the focus being on the design, including the cocky 'Let them stare', and then go 'Hey look, it's the exact same phone with a different camera bump on the back!' and expect everyone to cheer and be happy. I like HTC, they make a hell of phone that runs great, but doing a copy & paste is going to backfire in more then a few ways. They could have smoothed out some of the complaints about the design of the M8 (Bezel, slightly awkward shape, slimming down the speakers) and seemingly have just wen't 'Nope' and called it a day.

At least it'll make for some amusing readying material on Facebook and Twitter if things don't go well tomorrow.

You just hit the nail on the head. After the Galaxy S designer "quit" and after the last few Samsung phones released, it was obvious to everyone that the S6 was going to tackle the haters over it's designs. If HTC stands on stage tomorrow and unveils the design in those videos, they'll have lost their "edge" and possibly have commited corporate suicide.

The one difference though, is that those professional reviews all praised the HTC One M8 (and M7 when it came out) for it's design...Samsung on the other hand kept rehashing a design (and probably more importantly, choice of build materials) that those same reviewers had been hating on since the S3 pretty much

not really, just phone junkies that didn't get their way. happens every year.

Now its not the disbelievers that are delusional here....If HTC launches that design they have to know they're in for some heat, their design changes are now arguably smaller than Samsung's. There are a lot of small things they could have done that would have had a relatively large impact, like splitting the "black bar" between the top and bottom to make it seem like less wasted space as an example. Or moving the HTC logo...maybe even taking that (overly excessive) speaker grillage and instead of a rectangle form it in the shape of the HTC logo (since they just HAVE to have a big in-your-face logo). Moving the power button is too small of a change, especially when they've got tap-to-wake anyway like most manufacturers.

fix the camera improve the size(max) and a quicker charging battery and i'm all in .....

...and you have the phone that they should have released last year. So where's the beef? Gimme something here HTC, you're fighting for your lives, a better camera is very yesterday.

One of the main reasons why i'm a little reluctant to go with HTC.. a quick 30 minute search before the M7 was even released pretty much confirmed that ultrapixel camera just wasn't going to cut the mustard. Why they stuck with it for the M8 just didn't make any sense to me.
