HTC One M9 External speakers still play while headphone plugged in

The external speakers on my HTC One M9 still play while the headphones are plugged in. I'm not using HTC headphone and I changed the setting in audio to "other". I don't know how to get my music to play just through my headphones.

And do those headphones work in other devices?

Check for debris in the headphone jack--use a can of compressed air to blow it out.

Yes the headphones are plugged in all the way.

The headphones work fine in all kinds of other devices. And the phone is brand new and the input is clean.

I will check how it works with HTC headphones and post it. Maybe it is just those headphones?

So stupid phone. Even with the HTC headphones it still plays music through the external speakers. Please help!
