Hey guys. I have my new HTC One and I would really like to root the device. I would be using a macbook pro as the laptop to help. I know you can use motochopper to root phones like the S4 very easily. I am just wondering if anyone knows any really easy way for me to do this. I have never rooted a phone before and I would really not like to brick the phone.

Thanks!

Hi Max, welcome to Androidcentral! What HTC One model do you have? Perhaps we can guide you to the specific thread for rooting that device.

i have looked at this and im pretty sure you cant do it with a macbook.
Yes you can. The instructions are exaclty the same, except you need to access terminal in Mac to input the commands listed in the first post. I took a quick look at it and it doesn't look like there are any programs running and the rooting process involves downloading files and placing those files into the appropriate files on your computer and push to the device.

Make sure you have in Android SDK installed in the right location per Android SDK | Android Developers and don't change the name of any of the files that you download (unless the OP says to do so). Keep in mind that everything is case sensitive when inputing commands through terminal.

If you brick your phone you can always flash stock ROM so no problem and for battery drain and lag the root doesn't make any difference unless your planing on flashing custom ROMs such as CM 10.1
Good luck

If you sync your contacts with Google then you don't have to worry since you can sync them back at any time . but keep in mind when you unlock the boot loader of the HTC one through HTC dev web site everything will be deleted except your media such as songs pic etc but again its better you take a backup . after you unlock the boot loader root and your good to go
