If the Nexus 5 has the specs that were leaked, is it overall going to be a better device than the One?

- 4.95-inch 1080p IPS TFT display

- 16GB and 32GB internal storage

- 2GB RAM

- Snapdragon 800 quad-core CPU (MSM8947) at 2.3GHz

- 8-megapixel OIS rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera

- 2300mAh battery

- Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Proximity/Ambient Light, Pressure sensors

- Micro SIM slot

- HDMI out via Slimport

- Notification LED light

- Wireless charging

- NFC support

- UMTS/GSM/CDMA/LTE compatibility

- Bluetooth 3.0 (Bluetooth 4.0 also appears elsewhere in the document)

Very similar in specs.. Until we get some hands on and reviews from our awesome AC writers I won't be making any final judgements.

The only things I find compelling about the phone is the wireless charging and OIS for the camera. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same as the one. I WILL buy it if it get's put on Sprint as I have an upgrade coming on one of my lines. Don't even ask me about the Note 3...no interest....

The One has a 4MP camera and a Snapdragon 600. But like Paul stated, we won't know if the Nexus 5 will be better than the HTC One until we see an official review.

Doesn't The One's cam have OIS?

I had a N4 before I got The One and I definitely prefer the onscreen menu buttons compared to The One's capacitive ones (too many 'ones'). Another feature that I preferred on the N4 was the notification light (with Light Flow installed). The tiny light on The One is barely visible.

That said, I actually prefer Sense 5 over Vanilla Android. Obviously there things I miss but overall, I'm very happy with The One.

The HTC One has OIS in it's camera. The only thing that it lacks it's a little more resolution for the photos.

Other than that, I really like Sense 5 and the One hardware/features can be competitive down for a year or more. If HTC did a refresh on the One for next year that included an update CPU, way better camera and wireless charging, it would be awesome.

About the Nexus 5, we need more details or confirmation but besides camera (possibly) and the stock experience, it doesn't have much improvements. The One performance is really good right now.

While I love my HTC One and all but if these specs are correct I will get using the HTC One as my backup phone just to get on stock. The Nexus is the way to go for me anyways. Cheaper, shorter time frame for the upgrades with the least amount of $ out. So its win, win for me! Not to mention no more bloatware! Again, I still love the HTC One though. Will make a great backup phone if these specs hold any truth!

I'm a phone ho and didn't even know the ONE had OIS. Never really paid attention as I don't use my camera all that much.

I have the Moto X also and while I like on screen buttons, I find them to be obtrusive. 4.7 inch screen with the on screen buttons essentially makes the screen 4.3 inch usable. BUT having on screen buttons makes the phone smaller.....so it's a trade-off. I love them both so much I could scream!

It'll be a helluva lot faster at 2.3Ghz.... I love my One, but it's on Craigslist when the N5 is released. Seriously.

S800 is a big improvement on S600. Especially with respect to speed and the Adreno 330, and also power efficiency. One has one of the best LCD screens around way better than the N4, notwithstanding the difference in resolution. Hopefully the N5 screens can match the One. Boomsound will trump the N5. Wireless charging is impossible for the One due to its aluminum back. But would be a nice feature to have. The One's LED notification lights suck, give me multicolored LED notification like N4.

Ultimately it depends on what you want out of the phone. It's hard to be objective about which phone will be better. If you want raw performance than the N5. If you want sound quality and premium build, than the One is better.

Or you can go with my plan...Have both phones! :)

LOL. Actually I have N4(x2), One, Note 2, Note 3.

Thinking if I should get the N5 and One Max. I have 2 upgrades in Nov/Dec.

That works too! I have an S3, HTC One, and N4 currently. N4 will go away when the N5 is released.

Cool! Come to think of it, I didn't realise I have a One, Note 2, Note 3, Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 if I get that. 1,2,3,4,5! LOL. What a coincidence! All different brands!

I have an Omate TrueSmart smartwatch 2.0 on the way in Nov. I'll retire the N4s if I get the N5.

Thanks, that's a good way of looking at it. I'm finding it hard to decide. a 2.3Ghz CPU runnning vanilla android is obviously going to have amazing performance. The notification light is a big plus for me, reminding me of blackberry which I loved. Boomsound I'm not sure if I'd mind losing that really. I will mostly be wearing earphones rather than playing the speaker(s) out loud and there is a risk of the speakers blowing and being awful. As for the screen, the HTC One is 4.7" and super LCD high quality, but the N5 is 5" which is perfect and IPS which is also very high quality, probably better than the super LCD in most ways.

Nexus 5 is going to be a hell of a lot cheaper than the One too. I think I'm going for the N5, only problem is going another month without a decent phone and using a very low data plan. There's also the problem of how hard it will be to get an N5 around release time, oh and also the price in the UK will probably be horrible compared to the US.

Finally there's the issue that the first few weeks released devices always have hardware/software problems and I'll probably get a bad device and need to get it replaced which is a headache.

You are right. In terms of cost N5 is probably half the price of the One. LG admitted last year they were surprised at the demand for the N4. Hopefully they have learned their lesson and have sufficient stock for this launch. I missed out on the first batch too and had to wait two weeks for the second batch.
If you are in the UK then the price will be higher than getting it from the US. Not forgetting your horrible VAT.

I had no problems with my N4s despite ordering them two weeks after release. In fact I would say the HTC Ones had more issues, esp build quality with the gap. I had to exchange my phone a few days after purchase cos of the gap issues. Then a couple of months later, the purple tint camera issues which I'm experiencing now. I still love the One but it's the most problematic phone I've had. And I change 3 or 4 phones in a year.

The nexus may be let down a bit with its camera, and not really any special features or build quality, but it's a solid phone. The screen is bigger and >= quality to the one. It's plastic and the speakers are ordinary for phones (I use earphones anyway) but aside from that it's top of the line.

While I remember all of these issues at first I think they are still very minor. HTC did a GREAT job with the One IMO. I have only had ONE HTC One and it was fine. Granted that is my experience alone and it does not speak for everyone. So at the end of the day as an HTC One customer I'm very happy with my phone and choice to give them my money! Just in the future I will be on the Nexus band wagon instead. Fits my needs and its cheaper. Thats it! I hope HTC makes a Nexus device in the same ball park price range. I love their hardware.
