HTC People widget (favorites) oddity

Does anyone use the HTC People widget (like a favorites for 1 touch dialing/txting)? I think it was on one of the homescreens by default.

Anyways, I notice when I add a picture to a contact (select it from the gallery and use the built-in cropping tool) the picture is nice and sharp on the contact's thumbnail in the People widget initially. However, a day or so later, the picture looks like crap and all pixellated like its been severely down-res'ed. Anyone else notice this? Or know a fix? Not really a big issue I know, but its seems odd to me.

If you haven't, give it shot. Select a new picture for a favorite contact and see if it looks better than another existing picture contact. Then wait a day and see if it still looks good.

I believe it is because when you first assign the picture, it is local on the phone and full resolution. When google syncs your contacts file it stores the picture on their server and compresses it. Thus the pixleation. If you hit Menu, Settings, Accounts & Sync you can select Google and uncheck Sync Contacts. This will stop the problem from happening but you will have to re assign all the pics to the people in your contacts widget to get them to be sharp again. I noticed the same thing a while back and it really annoyed me, but not having my newly added contacts backed up on Google's servers scared/annoyed me more so I just put up with it. Hope this helps

thanks. That seems really dumb to me. Boo on Google...

I hardly ever add new contact so perhaps I'll just uncheck the sync contacts option.

Favorites photo sync issue

Go into accounts and sync and turn off facebook sync. Add account and turn on facebook for HTC Sense. This worked for me and all my favorites are better resolution. It uses their facebook profile picture. Hope this helps.

I'm guessing that won't work for me since I don't have a facebook account. Thanks for the suggestion though.

That is true if you are syncing facebook. I quit syncing it automatically a while back to save battery and to stop it from adding contact pictures I did not want at the time.
