Which HTC device are you considering? I have an M8 and battery life is outstanding with no lag at all. It doesn't have the best camera, so if you're really into taking pics, I would look elsewhere.

You might want to add some specifics about your own smartphone usage since it's pretty clear that everyone's mileage varies. I experience zero lag and can go two days without recharging my M8, but I'm hardly a power user. The camera's fine by me, too, since I've only ever used the pictures on backlit displays and don't need to enlarge them.

I'm a fairly heavy user, but I'm satisfied with the battery life with my type of usage. Lag is non-existent unless you're really pushing the system to the point that pretty much any phone would be lagging. The camera has great clarity and color accuracy, along with some nifty editing tools for the duo camera. The trade off is the lower resolution affects zoom and cropping ability, and taking pics of a direct light source can easily be overexposed.

The m8 has a decent battery life. I usually get 4.5 hours on screen time and a good 24 hours before the battery dies. I am a heavy user and fairly happy with the battery. There are things you can do like power save mode that stretch the battery further but limits gaming performance a little.

The lag is almost gone . Kitkatb4.4 on the m8 you will never get lag. However on lollipop 5.0.1 with the latest update does lag though I've only noticed it in the messenger app IF there are alot of messages stored. It's not perfect but I removed the previous messages and don't experience any lag now at all.

The camera is really good. M8 gets alot of bad rep for its camera but I really find it takes nice photos with some nice effects available on it too. Certainly better than average for a smartphone.

I switched from an s5 to the m8 and I couldn't be happier. The software experience is so much better, the speakers destroy the s5 speaker, the battery life is better. The s5 does take better pictures outdoors and the waterproofing was nice. Other than that m8 wins hands down.

The bottom line about the M8, everything is outstanding except for the cameras.

The main 4uP camera, will be great for you only if you want to take photos to share on (Instagram, Facebook, .... etc) So is the M8 camera bad? Well, it depends on what kind of user you are? What type of photos do you take.

Now, regarding the front camera. Before, I thought a 5MP front camera is cool. Until recently one of my friends got a low budget Galaxy Grand Prime that also has a 5MP front camera. As we compared the photos, his photos turns out to be much better than mine.

So if taking photos is a main thing for you, then I don't advice you to take the M8.

If taking photos is a main thing for me, and I want an HTC, then I would go for the HTC Desire Eye, that phone is built for taking photos.

Now Desire Eye cost almost the same as One M8, sadly, it doesn't has a premium design, you will feel like holding a low budget phone.

The battery life is not bad at all, it's not something that will blow you away either. I am a heavy user and usually get a few hours use with screen on time. I'm sure i'd get more if I didn't have the Nova Launcher and ZUI Lock Screen, so I can make allowances on my battery time.

Lag and HTC are not 2 words that often mix. HTC, with their Sense UI, go out of their way to make sure the user gets a buttery smooth experience. When you have many apps opened at the same time and you are pushing the RAM to it's limit, you may get the occasional jitter. But this only happens occasionally and is normal in any phone. I have had 2 iPhones prior this and the HTC M8 is the smoothest phone I have ever used. You will not get any Samsung like lags for sure!

I must be one of the few who thinks the camera on the M8 is really good. My pictures always come out clear and I zero complaints there.

Just purchased the M8 unlocked.
-hows battery life?(honest answers please) Great
-does it lag? NOT AT ALL
-is the camera bad? No but it isn't as good as the S5

anyone switched from an s5 to htc? Yes, I had a S5 when it first came out.

found a guy willing to trade his m8 for my s5 with a top up of $50 from me.should i?because i was paranoid when it launched that i worked hard to get it,without looking at other brands.my s5 doesnt have often lags even with lollipop battery is great.the things that are holding me back from the m8 is no fingerprint scanner,no water resistant,no removable battery, and 4mp camera.even though htc camera features are nice but i think the camera is way too low for a 2014 flagship device.
