Has HTC made any headway on announcing if Sense 2.0 will come to the Droid Incredible? I have been busy lately and haven't been online a lot.

There have been no announcements. If you really want the new Sense, root the phone and flash the desire Z ROM (correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Skyraider Sense uses the new sense as well).

If you don't want to root, I imagine that we'll get the new sense when we get Gingerbread, but that won't be for a few months.

The new one is not on Skyraider. I'm running 3.5 and it's the normal Sense.
I may flash a rom to give it a shot, though.

I am on 2.2 my Incredible came with this. So now I am confused !

HTC put a new version of Sense ("Sense 2.0") on the Desire Z and the Desire HD. It is not a part of HTC's Froyo package for the Dinc -- that's plain old Sense ("Sense 1.0," although I'm not sure that it is actually so numbered).

Revolutionary summed it up pretty well. I'll just add that you are running Android 2.2, aka Froyo. Android 2.3 is Gingerbread which is already on the Nexus S. Android is the operating system code created by Google. The Incredible has an additional "skin" or "overlay" over it that HTC created. It's called Sense. Basically, HTC took the stock Android code from Google and added some new stuff, like the "scenes" we have and the launcher is curved, and the black notification bar. You are running Sense 1.0. HTC is set to release Sense 2.0 at some point (apparently with Android 2.3).

To see a comparison, look at a youtube video of a stock Nexus One and compare it to your Incredible. The differences you see are Sense. I like a lot of what Sense offers.

Oh it was? I keep seeing people say that the incredible is getting gingerbread. That's aewsome that they made a official announcement.

It got Froyo so I'm sure it will eventually get Gingerbread too. Just might take a while...

I'm still not sold. With the Incredible HD announcement coming in a couple weeks, they might just discontinue support for this phone. It's not like we haven't seen HTC do something similiar before. Now, I'm thinking that it's "most likely" going to get gingerbread, but that's about as far as I'll go.

It's really too bad that we can't install an OS like we can today on PC's. I'm not really sure what the limitation is, just have all the drivers/firmware needed available for download on the HTC site. Then we could run any version of the OS we desired. So frustrating.

You can...you just need superuser (root) access. There is a 2.3 Incredible version out there that works sans GPS and video which are still being developed.

Okay, so yes, most of us here understand that you can. But it's a far way away from downloading an google installer to your pc, plugging in ANY android device you want, and then pointing that installer to a directory of drivers... or *gasp* a library of drivers like most flavors of linux have.

No, currently we're at the whim of the manufacturer getting stuff ready for us, which most likely means we'll get an ugrade or two and then we're screwed unless we depend on some weekend coder somewhere creating a custom ROM for us.

It's a FAR CRY away from us being able to treat our phones like real PCs, which is ridiculous when you think of it.

Is it the fault of Google, the handset manufacturer, or the carrier? As I see it all three are to blame.

Go get you an iPhone or a Windows Mobile phone...oh wait...those are even more locked down. ;)

While I agree it will probably get Gingerbread, your logic if flawed. Just because a phone gets one update does not mean it will get the next one. The phone will be EOL in I believe April (read it in the blogs somewhere). That along with the relatively small amount of memory it has (compared to newer phones) lead me to believe it will get Gingerbread BUT it will probably be it's last official update.
