Has anyone experienced the tortures of using the HTC Inspire? Apparently the earpiece's metal screen is large enough that individual hairs whether it be a man's beards and/or sideburns are caught in it and excruciatingly pulled. I thought it was a fluke the first time it happened, but then when I repeated the motion, bringing the phone up from cheek to ear with the metal earpiece screen brushing up my face, I winced in pain. Be extremely careful in your own attempts to assimilate the experiment.

[EDIT: This may not be the case for those who have medium to long lengths of hair. Short to very short lengths, should try "shaving" against the grain of hair growth. May the force be with you.]

Let me know if this has happened to you.

Also why do these look so similar? Something is definitely not right here. HTC have your R&D dept. call me, we need to meet pronto.

I'll have to have my friend at school try, haven't done anything with my DX yet, but he just got the Inspire so I'll check with him.

JAJAJAJAJAJA!!!!! Dude that sucks but it is freaking hilarious!!!! Best comparison ever!! and the funny thing is that it looks like the shaver wayyyy too much for comfort... Good luck.. :'( :( :) :D!!!!!!!

Surprised that more people have not experience the "shaving effect" of the HTC Inspire.

I guess it's mainly targeting those that have short to very short length of hair.

yes...it is. maybe it's just my particular phone. i'm sure everyone's Inspire microscreen is oriented a different way, but this occurrence is very frequent with mine.

It may have to do with how the perforations are aligned with the upper portion of my earpiece.

I'll have to try out another phone, and see if it's segregated to mine own Inspire.

You have to be fast to get anything approaching a decent shave. It's a big PITA to have to cycle through the ring modes to get the shave mode every third time.

putting a case on the inspire elevates the microscreen earpiece and alleviates the problem..solved. but i'll still try to exchange the phone for a another to see if it's just a manufacturing defect.

Are you guys grinding this thing into your ears or something? I've got sideburns and have never had one pulled by the ear piece.

Yes, I have the same issue. It will grab the hair on my ears and yank them out. Quite painful and annoying.:(
I have been trying to figure out a way to stop it, short of putting it in a case, but I have not found a case yet that I am happy with.
So I suffer thru it and keep the hair on my ears trimmed down.

This is why I do a u turn from my side with my arm to answer the phone if I'm not using headphones, no contact at all beside at the ear.

Hey, now that weve gotten 3rd party apps, there might be one to turn on the little shaver inside...Guess its a 2 in 1 phone

I got the Inspire the first day in came out and last weekend was the first time it ripped out a beard hair. I guess now i know that it may happen again and im not the only one, lol.

omGOD - it's not just me...

the very first time i put this phone to my face (...having shaved earlier that day) it grabbed ahold of the whiskers below my sideburns, then in an attempt to adjust the motion of putting the earpiece to my head it actually ripped out a few sideburn hairs (''.)

no: this is not a 'joke' thread (not to me, anyhow).
yes: the very first thing i said about the earpiece (after all the expletives had spilled forth) was that it looks like a damn microscreen from a shaver - true story.

this honestly is a serious oversight on the part of development! unless all the people in the development section are female or haven't yet started shaving or are undergoing chemotherapy, i can't understand how something this obvious was ever allowed to be released.

as this was a recurring event, i went ahead and purchased a cover that sets the shaver portion of the phone back about 1/8" or so away from contacting the skin and it has worked pretty well thus far... although it is a bit bulky now & no longer fits in the leg pocket of my carpenter jeans so i have to risk sitting on it in my back pocket instead (...please NO suggestions on wardrobe at this point. in my job {Construction Sales} that's what works so i stick with it - thanks). lol

the lack of 'attention to detail' is somewhat disgusting, in the sense that i have always only owned HTC phones and never had any problems ever until this. just a few minutes ago as i changed the battery in the phone, my wife called & the shriek that came outta' me about made her deaf, seeing as the phone was not yet back in it's snap-on cover & i had completely forgotten about the hair-ripping quality of it... which prompted the Google search for: hair HTC Inspire... which led me here.

disappointment is really prevalent in this matter. thinking of heading to eBay & find an unlocked HD2 to revert to & just load Android onto it. i love the overall looks & characteristics of the Inspire but it's just not worth it to me to have an item get so on my nerves.

*regarding 'grinding into the ear' - not everyones' heads/ears are shaped the same, nor does everyones' hair lie in the same manner.

...maybe this has created a more clear picture for any doubters or yet-to-be victims ('',)

The first sexist device by HTC. Guess this means that more women, like myself, will be sporting this device. :P

But seriously, that's got to suck for guys making a harmlessly phone call only to have journal whiskers ripped out.

hahaha its funny this has happened to me a number of times and boy does it hurt!
what I do now is when I need to talk on the phone put the ear straight to my ear without sliding it anywhere else with hair haha

I guess htc really has some of us dudes by the short hairs. Mine has been in the "condom" since shortly after I got it and I have not experienced this particular known issue despite my proclivity towards short to medium beard length. However, upon experiment in which I rubbed the phone up my face toward my ear I felt the tug of my smartphone in a new way.
