HTC Sync Problem/Eris Reboot

I have been doing a lot of searching and I haven't found the answer to this problem yet. It's a two parter. A couple of days ago, I got a new microSD card, I put it in the phone and hooked it up to the laptop to transfer some files to it. As soon as I plug the USB cable into the phone, it freezes and reboots, it will continue to do this until I unplug the USB cable. I don't believe it is a SD card issue because the card works just fine in everything else, including the Eris. I put the old SD card back into the phone and it does the same thing. I even tried different USB cables and USB ports. The second part is that along with trying to transfer some files, I was going to sync outlook and my eris. Every time I install the Sync program onto a computer, it deletes the drivers for my wireless card and LAN line card. I have the drivers saved away so its not that big of a deal but it is annoying. I talked to Verizon and they could not help at all. I talked with HTC and they said that the Sync program does not work well with Windows XP SP3. I think it is a little ridiculous that HTC can offer no fix and just says tough luck. The weirdest part is that I have used this phone, cable and laptop with the HTC Sync program previously and it worked fine. Anyone else run into this problem? Any advice? Thanks.

The closest to this problem I had was a week and a half ago...I plugged in USB to do a screen capture with the SDK, and unplugged. After that, every time I got a message of any kind, it would reboot. Upon start up, then I could read the message, and then send. Then as soon as I got a message again, reboot. I did a full factory reset to get the problem to stop.
