htc thunderbolt jammed

3 days ago my thunderbolt locked up, i heard the device receive some message (all my notifications use the same sound), shortly after (15-20 min.) i checked the phone, all it showed was a download icon right in the middle of the screen. after all the usual attempts to restore device to normal service i stopped in @ verizon where they said they've never seen this before. they sent me a replacement phone, it arrived today. after going thru setup & getting this new phone configured the new phone received a message & repeated the same freaking jammed out whatever, showing the same icon on the screen. i havent thrown it against the wall yet, but i am pretty upset. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanx, mike
