HTC to Samsung conversion questions

Greetings all, I've been an HTC user since my first Android phone & I'm trying to adjust to my new S10e. A few questions:

1) I wanted to check out the phone before switching everything over, so I didn't use the initial setup to transfer info. I later used Smart Switch which got most info, but it didn't bring over stored settings like saved WiFi networks. I know that info gets stored in Google backup, but is there any other way to bring it to a new phone?

2) Do the Samsung services like Find Phone, 'Backup', Cloud, etc, offer any advantages over the Google services?

3) Is there any way to adjust the size of folders? I have a couple of folders that I organize apps into & they take up the full screen with the apps on top even if there are only 3 in there.

4) How can I get weather onto the lock screen? I'm looking primarily for termp.

Thanks in advance. I'm sure I'll have more questions later!

Hey, I too am an HTC to Samsung convert. I got the S10+ and like you HTC is all I've known, starting with the Incredible.

I'm not sure about your first question. I used the Smart Switch and it was super nice. HTC's Transfer was always nice but it was never as fast as the SS was for me.

If you have Verizon the Find My Mobile thing from Samsung won't work for you. I'm not sure if any other carriers are blocking it but it's far superior to Google's Find My Device. I would much rather be using it over the Google one because it has so many more options. It can turn on power saving mode to keep the phone going until you can find it. It can unlock a phone if you've forgotten your pin or password (this has to be enabled in the settings before use and you have to verify your identity to turn it on). There's something different about the message feature, I'm not sure what, but the way people talk about it there must be something more to it than what Google is doing. As for the cloud service and all of that from the brief time that I've looked at anything, it may be better but Samsung expects you to buy/spend more than Google does for similar services. Coming from HTC the first thing I noticed was the themes/wallpapers/icons and all of that and like every thing cost, where with HTC almost everything was free. On a side note I also liked more of the theme stuff from HTC, and I'm sorry, but I'm not, but I'm not paying $.70 to over $1 for something I'm not going to want in week. The Backup seems more like iCloud, in its thoroughness of backing up. I say seems because I haven't actually done much with it, and honestly I'm not sure if I can with the heavy handed Big Red trying to kill everything that's good about this company.

I feel your folder pain. I mean they give you all of these great screen sizing options but neglect the folders??? As far as that goes if you add more than is visible they scroll to the side. I hate the page to the side scroll. I much prefer HTC's continuous vertical scroll. Which you can experience on your device if you want to add apps to your folders but yet can't have it as a default in your app drawer...? Yeah, WTH? And no it takes up the whole screen even for 2 or 3 apps.

I don't care much about the lock screen or the AOD, but it looks like you can have the weather. Open settings and use the search feature, it's about the only way I can find anything in all of the menus this thing has vs my old HTC, and search Lock Screen, then find FaceWidgets. There you'll find a toggle for a few different things including weather. You have to swipe the clock to the side to see them but you can reorder them so that weather is next in line so you only have to do one swipe. Not as convenient as HTC weather clock but you can do it.

Disclaimer; I'm assuming all of this is the same from the e to the + so I'm sorry if it doesn't all work same for you.

Thanks! I'll try the Samsung Find my Mobile.

The side scrolling doesn't make any sense to me. I have to swipe up to open the app drawer then switch to sideways to scroll rather than continuing a vertical motion.

I have Face Widgets enabled but I still don't see the weather when I turn the screen on. Still investigating.

I actually installed a clone of the HTC flip clock for my home screen! Unfortunately, it doesn't open up the clock or weather depending on where you tap like the HTC one did.

Yeah I didn't see a way to like lock the facewidget deal on the last thing you looked at or a way to have it default to one of the options, so the only way to see it is to touch the time and slide it, up? down? nnoooo.... sideways! Yaaay.

You're going to try Find My Mobile... So you don't have Verizon? If it works for you report back your carrier. I'm having less and less loyalty for Verizon.

I have T-Mobile, so Find My Mobile appears to be working. Showed right up on the map.

Ohhh, now I see how to switch to weather! Thanks!! I wish it didn't require interaction, but better than nothing.
