HTC Vivid SD Card Issues

I know there has been a lot of postings about SD card issues already, but I am not all that tech savvy so I am hoping someone can give me a clue

I just received an 8GB microSD card and placed it in my HTC Vivid. At first it just kept saying I needed to format but it would run for hours and never do anything. I then went into settings and Mounted the SD card. I then got the message stating "SD Card Blank or has unsupported filesystem." I click on it and it asks if I want to format. I say yes and it still doesn't do anything. All I see is a black rectangular box with a "loading" circle.

Now as I said, I don't know much about phones! Can anyone give me a dumbed down version of how to get my phone to recognize the SD card?

Try reformatting the card in your pc

Thanks. I actually was able to stick it in a friend's phone and it formatted immediately. I put it back in mine and it works fine. Apparently the Vivid isn't interested in such petty tasks as formatting?
