HTC Wastes the LED

HTC Wastes the LED. One of the things I loved about my old droid was the.different color led notifiers. Even on silent mode with screen off I could.look down at the phone during a meeting and know if I had a.text, a corporate email, a personal email, or a calendar reminder.

HTC thinks all the LED is good for is telling you if the phone is charging or has completely charged. I don't need the led to tell me the phone is plugged in.

While the phone is.on and in use the green led sometimes blinks telling me absolutely nothing. The orange LED is just wasted when the screen is on.

B4 updating with GB an app called light flow allowed me to actually USE the LED's. Green for email, orange for corporate, yellow for sms. Now light flow is blocked by HTC.

I'm sorry if I upset HTC fans but when it comes to utilizing one of the features that android beats iPhone with HTC is "dim"

IMO the LED on the thunderbolt is useless because it is behind the speaker grill. Unless you are looking at the phone from straight ahead, the LED is pretty hard to see.

I must be missing something because I only have one functional eye and I havent noticed any issues with seeing the led when device is on my desk at work or home, I know when I have a missed message or call at a simple glance.

What am I missing is the issue?

You have heightened vision in your other eye... The notification light is horrible and is only visible when charging. The flash brightness is too dim and duration is too short

Maybe... :D

(Note: Do not look directly into Green LED with remaining eye!)

They do waste it. I emailed them about it months ago and they said it will only blink for 5mins when a message comes thru. I can't look at my phone every 5-6 mins to see if I missed anything.

Also having to turn on the display all the time to check notifications drains the less than stellar battery quicker. It might actually help battery life to just blink the little led instead of turning on the screen.

HTC has a misguided direction in respect to the LED.

I wouldn't even mind THAT if we could use it as a flexible.notifier as intended.

When I could use light flow it worked perfectly (albeit only 3 colors). I had the charger light shut off completely so orange was an email notifier. I'm usually charging when not using so notifiers that only work for 5 minutes and not at all when charging are useless.

I'm glad to read others care about it. Believe it or not this little thing could.drive me.back to Motorola. My only alternative is to root. I may even have to use a froyo Rom but I'm not sure about that.

Due to the short duration of the notifier function I never knew it worked at all! It should continue to blink whether charging or not until it is cleared or app is.opened. we should be able to control color, brightness, duration, and blink frequency.

Heck, my green light is blinking now.and I have no idea why. No emails.or texts. What a waste.

I'm glad to read others have complained to HTC about it. I'm afraid it would require 100's of complaints to make a dent though.

When I first switched to this phone from a bberry I commented on how i missed the LED notification. "Wastes it" is a good way to put it

I don't have any complaints about led light. Seems to work just find for my needs . Light blinks when I have a notification and I can see it with no issues

If you want the by-far best notification system, look into the Samsung Continuum. That phone makes LED notification lights look useless.

well i just returnd my stupid charge cuz i could not take that phone a any more and got a tb so il tell ya wat i think about the led

It's pretty and orange while charging and green when charged. When not charging the green flashes occasionally for no particular reason. If you would like to know if you have a text or email when screen and sound are off check every 4 minutes or led notifier shuts off.

I don't have any issue with it. I see it clearly. I also know I have an email or a text from my notification sounds and if I have it on vibrate, I can feel the vibration even in the case. Also the email icon and message icon notify with a number on it. I do miss the berry buzz I had on BB but that isn't a deal breaker for me. So what's the big deal? It blinks and I know there is a message but like I said, notifications also inform me.

I told you the big deal....

Situation 1: at a business meeting I have screen off and all sounds and buzzes off. (Even buzz is frowned upon) LED notifications would be nice even after 5 minutes. I can't stare at my phone during meetings but I can glance at the led periodically

Situation 2: phone screen is off and left in another room for an hour. I can pick up phone and waste battery life turning it on or look for led notifier. The led notifier COULD tell me if I have a personal email. A work email, an sms, or any combination of the 3. I used to have this with light flow app pre gb update. HTC locked developers out of led control in gb update.

My life doesn't depend on this functionality but it WAS one of the nice advantages of android over iphone that HTC has dumped for no reason.
