The HTC devices that were launch yesterday for the most part is what I expected. Those the htc facebook phone was a surpise as well as the HTC Flyer only being single-core without honeycomb. Also what was surprising for HTC is all these phones without 4G capability. HTC coming out with larger group of phones that seem will need to be replaced by Q3.

Yeah it's ridiculous that they're bringing out non-4G phones. I believe that the carriers have something to so with it though.

It's been re-reported that the Flyer will get HoneyComb shortly after launch.

This thread should be relocated, but AC forums don't have any "Manufacturer" forums for general talk like this. The "Rumored Devices" forum doesn't exactly fit the bill either.

I actually like the flyer a lot. I'm not a fan of a larger form factor tablet. I have an iPad I got from work and I hate it. Though I really dislike HTC's focus on Sense with regards to the tablet. It will be interesting to see how it brings Sense into Honeycomb because Honeycomb vanilla is pretty amazing.

Not a thunderbolt topic!

Have you read this section lately? 90% of the threads here are off topic. The mods move anything that actually have any info to one big shi*pile and leave the rest. 17 pages of threads for a phone that has not even been released yet is very off topic!

Yeah but almost all the threads OPs are based on something to do with the Tbolt even if they end up going off topic..this threads OP is about HTC's devices released at the MWC and has Nothing to do what so ever with anything related to the TB or its release. this should be on a different forum completely.

Great topic, wrong section. So what? Just PM one of us and ask us to move it. Don't jump all over the OP.

If you have questions, complaints, or brilliant ideas about the way this forum is being moderated, the proper protocol would be to interact with one of us directly. And if the threads you are referring too are the one's about release dates, I'm the man you need to speak with.

Well back to the topic. HTC is not the only manufacturer releasing phones without 4G capability like LG, and Sony. Now someone brought up a good point about the carriers having control over whether a phone will get 4G or not. Which brings up questions.

If all the carriers are pushing for 4G then why sell new phones that don't have 4G capability?

Are they trying to trap customers into buying 3G phones to later upgrade to 4G?(this seems unlikely it's a possibilities)

Or lastly is just industry standard were like to make slow transition to the next thing?

FYI
Does anyone no how the transition to 2G to 3G worked out I am sure the same question came up?

Most phones announced at MWC are for markets other than the US. And most of those markets are still rocking good old GSM. Verizon is really the only carrier to have LTE rolled out so far so its not surprising the vast majority of phones announced are 3G only.

Won't they make US versions of their phones which usually come months after foreign market have them. Then we would be pretty deep in Q3 or early Q4 and 4G as a whole would be pretty predominate in the US.

US carriers like manufacturers to make phones specifically for them. Those FB phones are coming to AT&T at least. I am sure HTC will have more phones for the US market as the year rolls along, just not sure it will be the exact phones they announced this week.

If nothing else, they (and Sprint) would be insane not to have an Evo 2 this summer.

MWC and CES are two different markets.

CES - You show the stuff you want to sell to the US carriers.

MWC - You show the stuff you want to sell to the rest of the world.

In the US, the carriers are aggressively adopting LTE and HSPA+. That's why the Thunderbolt and Inspire is shown there. So was the Atrix, Revolution, and so on.

The rest of the world is not in a hurry to move to "4G" although there are many places with HSPA+. MWC is where you show models that has a more generic, international focus. Like the Motorola Pro.

The real disappointment with HTC is where is their dual core handsets?

The answer is simple. HTC is tight with Qualcomm. They don't use anyone's chips but Qualcomm's. The problem is that Qualcomm is late with their dual core SoCs. They were just announcing them in February. LG and Motorola don't seem to have any qualms going from one chip to another, and neither is Samsung.

However, as Qualcomm starts shipping out its dual cores, expect HTC dual cores to appear in the 2nd half of 2011, with rumors in the 2nd quarter.

CTIA is more oriented for the telecoms. We will probably see more 4G phones there.

I don't see a problem for HTC to customize LTE versions of the Desire S or Incredible S for specific carriers if ordered. The Thunderbolt and Inspire are essentially, a mod of the Desire HD. Not totally brand new designs.

The Flyer looks interesting and I would definitely like to play with one
If the Nook Color is rocking Gingerbread I'm thinking the more powerful CPU in the Flyer can do it. I just can't decide in the 7 vs 10 inches thing. Hopefully HTC can bring it in for a good price.

I did not know the MWC was towards the foreign mobile market. Also what you said about 4G seem sound between the US and foreign markets makes sense.
The dual-core I agree on with HTC and sort blindly put the blame on HTC didn't think about Qualcomm being issue for why have not seen HTC dual-core phones or tablets yet.

I disagree on the Desire S and Incredible S being able to have LTE after production. The phones would have to have sim card capability built into as the LTE runs off a sim card. They would have to build the phones to except a LTE sim card later on. That would be waste money for manufacturing to have feature for the US market but yet in foreign market. Since the foreign market as you said and I agree are not pushing 4G.

All of this seem very interesting and can't wait to see what gets announced in March. (I will be keeping myself updated with Thunderbolt on 1 year contractjust upgrade after X-MAS) (Thunderbolt 24th + 1 year contract + 10 month to upgrade = December 24th) (Quad-core is nice but I believe will be more than what I need. Unless dual-Core processors do not meet my needs on battery life)
