Huawei p20 pro No Sms sound!

Got my p20 pro and loving it. However when I receive texts the phone vibrates but plays no SMS notification sound. Been through all menus (I think) and can't seem to correct the problem. Anyone else run into this???

And can you show a screenshot of your sound settings page to give us a better idea of what options you have selected.

Attached screenshots of both sound setting menu and message setting menu. Owned p10 and p9 previously band never had this issue. Don't know if I'm missing something obvious!

Just to make sure,

Open the Messaging app, click the 3 dots at the bottom, settings, ringtones and vibration, notification tone, make sure the notification sound you want is selected there

There is no such setting on the P20 Pro. P20 uses the Android messages client and Huawei has done something that has disabled the ability to set an own notification sound for SMS messages. ONly place to change it is in the Settings - Sounds

That's weird. I'm using the same app albeit on my Mate 10 Pro and I can change the tone within the app settings

Is your mate 10 on 8.1 or still on 8.0? Maybe that's where the change happened?

That's the thing, it works with my Mate 10 Pro but not on my review unit P20 Pro

And it actually doesn't work in other sms app either, just tried Pulse and nope, can't change the notification sound.

I guess so. Shame that they have to tinker with everything. Generally the notification settings are also a total mess. You have two different places to set notification settings and only one of them is the native Android 8.1 Oreo settings.

These are the things that make me hate every Huawei phone so much

Unfortunately this appears to be the best solution, IF someone finds a better one let me know. In the meantime this one gets marked as the answer.

Use Material Messaging from the play store (it's free). Can customise the tone in that (and it has loads of other customisable features too).
