Huawei P20 PRO not giving sms notifications

Recently got my new P20 Pro and try as I might I can't receive text (sms) notifications is there anything I can do to rectify this?
 
Welcome to Android Central! Is this only when the phone is asleep, or even when it's on and you're actively using it?
