HYC Sync Manager software and M10

How is the over all experience using the HTC Sync Manager and the M10 compared to the other phones? Is there a special setting to completely back up your contacts (I am not sure if I have it right), since when I updated from the M8 to the M10, I lost a lot of contacts (HTC Transfer worked wonders). What is the opinion of the Sync manager and do you use something else?
