I am having problems with K-9 mail

I am new here and I am glad that there are people who know about these apps to help people out. So, happy to be aboard. I have k-9 mail for the Optimus V. It used to work fine up until two weeks ago. I used to get my messages with a ring tone notification and it would show up on my task bar. Now, I don't get a notification unless I go into the program manually. Also, if I go into the program and I check my e-mail and I have more than 1 e-mail, but I don't read it, the notification in the task bar goes away. It never used to do this. There are times when I go into my e-mail in k-9 and I don't want to read a particular e-mail at that time, but it used to leave the e-mails that were unread still in the task bar. Can someone please help?
