i am just now getting around to syncing my contacts to google but having problems

First, yes, I do have the 'syncing contacts' option checked within the accounts and sync settings
Secondly, I tried to save the contact to my sim card so i can then change a phone contact to a google contact, but when I try to do this I get a sim card error and the contact does not save to the sim card.
Thirdly, I tried to link the contact to google and this did nothing. When I was within the contact info and i hit the link option the google listed in my contact list was called "unnamed-google". Is this normal or maybe part of the problem?

I did a search and none of the similar problems posted will solve my issue.

Now I am at the point where I think I may have to delete the contact and re-enter it as a 'google' contact instead of a 'phone' contact. Is there any other way?

I'd like to know as well. I had a few people saved as "Phone" and I had to delete them and resave it as a "Google" contact so it would sync.

I know this is a backwards way but download My Backup.

Then backup your contacts to the SD card. Now make sure your gmail contacts are allowed to sync.
Finally use My Backup to restore your contacts
This should put them on your Google account.

Not sure how much I can help but what is the error message you get when you attempt to export to the SD card? Are you using your USB cable when you try to export? You may not be able to access the SD card when you are using cable, depending on the mode you are in.

I know I had to export my Contacts to my SD card, then import into Google Contacts on my PC. At this point I wiped out all of the contacts on my phone, which resulted in my wiping out most contacts from Google Contacts. I probably should have wiped out my contacts from my Tbolt first and then imported into Google Contacts. Nevertheless, Google Contacts has a restore option. I set it to restore from 10 minutes back and my contacts were back. I then was able to Sync my contacts with my Tbolt.

ah, i found a different set of import/export instructions that allowed me to move all phone contacts at once to the sd card. The first set of instructions I found said i had to move each contact individually to the sd card, and that's when I got the error.

So now I have all my phone contacts listed as google contacts.....but like you said I can't delete them from the phone contacts list without deleting them from google....

also, now the phone is suggesting I link contacts to google.....if they are already google contacts then what is the point of linking them and should I accept the link suggestions?

^ Just verify that your exported contact file is good and then delete from the Tbolt. Then re-import into Google Contacts. That will restore your contacts. Or restore from within Google Contacts like I did.

I'll be honest with you, my heart jumped when I noticed that my Google Contacts were gone after deleting from the Tbolt. I'm just glad the restore worked perfectly in Google Contacts.
