Android Central Question

Other than the "keyboard won't appear" thing, it won't let me type down the password because it keeps saying "Unfortunately, Gboard has stopped working." On my lock screen.
I can't fix the Gboard problem because I can't unlock the phone. I sound like an ***** right now, but what should I do?

This has happened on my wifes G5 this morning.
Firstly ,you can enter the password if you plug in an On The Go cable and then a USB keyboard. That allows you to get in.The same OTG cable plus a mouse also allows you to access if the touch screen is broken.
We tried clearing cache and also forcing stop in Apps /Gboard but this did not work.So we disabled Gboard ,accepting the factory default keyboard, and the password keyboard is reinstated.
It maybe that Google will update the keyboard again, but hopefully it will not jam up again.

Having same problem after recharging my phone this afternoon. What does it mean?

What does what mean? The device needs an update to correct the problem. As per post 3 you need to use a USB keyboard to open the phone to get the update. If I have misunderstood your post please give more detail

Same thing happened to me on my Nexus 7 (2013 edition) tablet, running Android 6.0.1. I followed Peter Larson's advice (in this thread) to disable GBoard, and that got rid of the "Unforntuately, GBoard has stopped" messages. But it left me with no keyboard at all!

So I went to the play store, clicked on the mic icon, and shouted "GBoard" at it. That worked! The store app replied with a "Update?" button, I clicked it, and now I have a working keyboard (I assume it's GBoard) again!

You need to use an OTG adapter so that you can plug in an USB keyboard to your android phone and use the "big" keyboard to type in your password.

An OTG-USB adapter costs 5-15$ depending on what country you live in.

After you are in, you can update or delete the app "Gboard"

On my phone (Android 11) I am unable to type in my password to get off the lock screen. It says "Turn on Talk back to use braille keyboard when Talk back is on, you can tap your screen to enter braille symbols."

Welcome.

Try first a Power Off & Restart. Tell us if no go.
